Butler County Bass
I was looking online and topo maps and satelite views, and does anyone know if the Boydstown resevoir (above the Oneida Dam) able to be fished? Also, the Glade Dam Lake, different from Glade Run Lake

I've always known it to be off limits.

If by Glade Dam Lake, you mean the one on SGL 95 near West Sunbury, part of it can be fished. Much of the lake is a Propgation Area and is strictly off limits to EVERYTHING. But in the parts that are accessible, you can fish. I have absolutely no idea how the fishing is, as I only hunt ducks there once in awhile. In the early season I often see fish surfacing, but have no idea what they are - I'd imagine probably carp.

Ya the propagation area looks like a bass gold mine though, full of weeds and lilly pads. Thanks fellas. Anybody also know of any public lakes(minus Moraine) with good bass fishing?

Anybody also know of any public lakes(minus Moraine) with good bass fishing? It's a over looked lake in the area. The main lake is open for ice fishin' Harbor Acres is located on the same GL , no gas motors on either lake. The bass fishing is good at Lake Oneida in the summer, fish deep for 'em. Thorn Run res. is only a few min. away with bass & crappie, both lakes can be fished from shore only. Ton ov strip mine ponds through out the northern Butler area loaded with bass. crappy

An interesting history on the Boydstown dam. The dam failed in 1903. Flooding the city of Butler, and indirectly contributing to an outbreak of Typhoid that same year.

Sevenmiles.......have you tried Cross Creek? Avela, PA......rt. 50, maybe 18 miles west of Bridgeville. Elect. motors only.
My wife told me that if I didn't stop fishing every day, she'd leave me. Some days, I really miss her.

Glade Run Lake is currently being drawn down. Fishing is concentrated to a small area near the dam. The boat launch is a couple of hundred yards from the water's edge. Due to the mud, fishing is pretty much limited to the dam breast and the fishing pier. Glade Dam on Game Lands 95 has two primitive boat launches. You can fish the entire lake, propagation area as well, after June 15th, from a boat only. Shore fishing is limited to the southern end of the lake. It is very shallow and weedy. I usually can manage a few bass and lots of catfish. Nothing big but good numbers. Did I mention it is very shallow and weedy?

I fished Thorn Run Resevoir today. We caught a carp over thirty inches long. They were jumping everywhere. We caught it on a minnow which is really wierd I thought. We also caught two cats. A couple a guys walked around the lake but werent doing any good. The water was brown and it was windy. Today was my scouting trip I would love to check out the Dam area.

My buddy used to live next to it. He would get bites all over his stomach area every time out. Fished with him & the boys there a few times & we all had some on us. Waders seemed to help a bunch. We caught piles ov Crappie & some Bass but the fish seemed to have malnutrition/stunted/skinny. He said it holds some nice bass though. Good Luck crappy

Pretty sure it is a stained lake. Guess when it gets low in the summer it is easy to get the bigger Bass.

If you're talking about the little lake on the other side of the bridge at Oneida, yes, you can fish it. probably no water in in though... above that, I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist anymore. they drew it down. Lake Oneida is a joke now. Every fish that is 12.25" or better is taken home by some chump. That lake will be fished out by the end of this year for bass. I fished there at night with limited success: again, small fish up to 14/15". Look at the PFBC biologist reports for this body of water. It's sad. In response to Glade dam Lake, I have punished that lake with everything-Buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, big O's, Plastic worms,- you name it. Never caught anything over 12". Went there at night with jitterbugs and spinnerbaits. Nothing to shout about. I agree that it does look like the bassiest lake of all time with all the lily pads/stumps but the bottom in that area is muck. Not good habitat. harbor Acres is an ok lake-decent fish in there but difficult to navigate in the summer without a boat. I like to fish it at night. It is very clear.
