New Water and New Camera.
After Friday's hellacious storms, we were left with very few places to fish. To pass the time over the weekend, I bought a new camera. I spent some time getting used to it on Saturday, then decided to take it along fishing on Sunday. With most of the good trout water still flowing brown, some friends and I decided to seek out new water on a small spring creek that we've been exploring the past few years. The creek itself is seldom fished. It's formed by a few springs that keep a constant flow and cool temp at 52 degrees all year round. Some locals fill their drinking water containers where the springs flow out of the ground, but the creek is otherwise left alone. It's a short creek, flowing only several miles before it's confluence with bigger warmer water. It's not stocked, but is full of wild browns. Thankfully few people know it. A few years back one gentleman was nice enough to stop by to tell us "I don't think they stock this creek", "I figured I'd tell ya so you don't waste your time". This time of year, the rocks are covered with scuds, sulphur nymphs, and cahill nymphs. For whatever reason, the fish are usually too shy to take much on top even during the evening sulphur hatch. Regardless, a heavily hackled cahill makes a good indicator, and you can't go wrong with a tiny scud on this creek any time of the year. Here's a few crappy pics of the flies and the fish from Sunday...

great pics. fun to explore new creeks when the others are washed out. sometimes it's rewarding! i was catching trout on top when there wasn't any hatches and everyone else was nymphing. strange how fly guys won't cast a dry if they don't see 20 some risers!!

ORIGINAL: D-nymph Sure is a shame "they don't stock that creek". I think it needs some trophy palominos stocked in it. Next time you guys are around, I'll take you there.

I got the d3100 for my daughters photo class and now is in the hands of my brother. Kinda wish I kept it for myself. Nice camera, especially that 18-55mm kit lens. That's a pretty good lens for the money.
