IMO a flasher is the only way to go. Now, you'll get an argument about which mfg has the best flasher. But, a good flasher is worth the money. I have an Low. X67C and use it all year around.

never had the opportunity to use a flasher but the cheap ($130 at harbor freight) uw cam is worth it for the enttertainment value alone IMO...definately not putting a flasher down as i would absolutely love to have one...have seen some pretty cool stuff and only used it a couple times...big huge fish...monster schools...it also lets you know what is getting interst and what is not..what jugging techniques work and what scares them away...definately helps with the catch...maybe not as much as a flasher and a educated owner but helps

I agree I have the same machine and love it. I have a camera that I bring when I take my kids with me but for walleye fishing the lowrance is definatley the way to go.

I've had a Vex for over 15 years,thats all you need,but any good flasher will work.Cameras need clear water and if its clear and shallow you can sight fish out of your shanty with your eyes. Cameras can be fun but if given the choice of ONE, a flasher all the way.

I have both as well. And as many times as I went out this winter I think the camera was used twice. The flasher will show depth and the fish whether the water is dirty or clear, middle of the day or middle of the night. Never used a vexilar, so cant say anything bad about them but I bought a showdown this past summer and it is the best fishing related investment I have ever bought. Will not go on the ice without it. They can be used in open eater. But never tried mine yet.

Interesting w_w. I fish with a Marcum lx-5 and FL-8 four feet apart with no problems. I did notice that using the IR on the vex is useless when fishing with the Marcum...you need to use the IR on the Marcum to correct the interference. That's the downside of the high power on the Marcum...echo on nearby units (until you correct with IR control), and lower battery life. A 9ah battery is a must with the lx-5 if you plan on fishing more than 8-10 hours.

flasher just because you can use it anywhere, as where a camera is not worth the box it comes in on a stained lake. just my opinion

In the future, I would love to see the two technologies married together. Like an ultra fine sonar unit that had the display of a tv, but had the area coverage of a sonar.

I would have to say flasher.

1 Able to shoot through ice with better models
2 Shows bottom type and vegetation
3 Shows fish in entire water column
4 Works well even in stained water
5 Shows depth and many have zoom feature

Own the Marcum LX-5 and the Vex FL-8 no complaints.

all depends on what you really want to do? Mark fish to catch..........or play hide and seek with a video camera??

both are fun..........if you want to catch fish--Flasher (showdown) if you want to watch fish, then get a camera.......
