Loop Wing Tute
any more i normaly tie patterns that are quick, easy and effective. though i admire the fancy vice work on fancy patterns i'm down to catching the fishes eyes more than the fishermans. this one pattern had caught my eye sometime ago though. it looked fragile, a bit complicated to tie but it had a quill body and looked to give a great silhouette. i thought about it and decided to give it a try.
BWO Loop Wing Paradun
hook: 94840 #16-#20 standard dry fly (one pictured is a #16)
thread: BWO #8
tail: medium to dark dun hackle fibers
wing: two medium dun hackles with trimmed fibers leaving a stubble effect, tied in a loop
abdomen: stripped olive dyed saddle hackle stem.
hackle: grizzly dyed olive saddle hackle tied parachute style
thorax: olive dubbing
head: bwo thread
feather usage
left= medium dun tail fibers
2nd from left= will be stripped for abdomen
3rd= two dun hackles for loop wing
4th= grizzly olive hackle for para-wing
prepping loop hackle wings:
hold each hackle by tip and stroke wing downward to extend fibers than
than butt together, back to back and secure the tips in a vise.
trim
each side leaving stubble along hackle stem
i only trimmed one side here to show difference
1. pull some fibers off the a dun hackle and tie in for tail
2: bring thread forward, as shown, and tie in prepped hackle by the tips as shown
NOTICE that end of wings over eye and tips facing back.
trim tips along shaft.
3: wind thread to back of shaft and tie on stripped saddle hackle for abdomen. return thread to behind wing.
4: wind stripped hackle stem forward in close wraps to form abdomen
trim hackle stem just behind wing and secure. trim left over stem.
i use a saddle hackle for my quill bodies because they are more flexable and easier to wind than a cape hackle. 
5: form loop by holding the two feathers together and bending them back towards hook bend than loopng forward tying in at where the feathers were previous tied in at as shown
6: trim leftover stems and secure with thread wraps behind eye.
bring thread to behind wing
7: secure hackle as close to the loop tie in on each side of loop wing.
i use a saddle hackle for my parachute wings because they are more flexable than a cape hackle. 
8: dub thorax around loop with olive fur.
9: as you wind the hackle around the loop wing, pull down on each side with each wrap to keep wraps as close as possible
10: tie off, trim butts and i use a half hitch tube to secure thread wraps close to loop wing post.
