Last hunt of 2010
Woke before daylight Friday and debated on which sport to go to.
Ice fishing was in my mind but so was deer meat. As I sat there with my coffee
Mika kept wining and looking at me with her tail just going crazy. The day was going to be warm
and I knew the ice would start to get mushy so I cancelled thew ice fishing. Really wanted to find a deer before the snow was gone but Mika,s eyes were begging me. So I scratched the deer hunt
to take her for a goose. She jumped in the truck and I swear I saw a smile on her face.lol
Decided to hit the field down the rd. where I have been seeing a small flock. Pulled up to it only to see two trucks parked. Dang should have hit that the other day:(.
Now what? I decided to hit the prop. area to try on some fly bys.
Got about halfway to where I wanted to be and realized I left my call. Rats! Back we walk with Mika staring at me the whole way. She jumped up and down when we started back to the lake.
As we got close to the lake two huge eagles flew from a tree. What a sight, felt good to be here.
The geese were flying but not near me. I called to a flock that started turning back towards me.
I saw a black speck on the ice getting closer as I called. Wow! A black coyote running right at me!
The geese were nearly to me and I thought I had a chance on them and shot. No geese fell but the coyote was running back across the ice like a rocket. Why did I shoot..dang it!
I moved down a few hundred yrds. to get in a better position in case another flock came the same way. It wasn,t long and my chance came. But the dog was too excited and ran towrds them. Away they flew. Rats! A half hr. later5 came out of the prop. right at me. Unloaded the gun and one fell.
Mika was on it and brought it to my feet with that smile of hers.:)
Another half hr. and bingo here comes 7 from the same area. Bang, unloaded again. One drops and it was a biggin.
In my hast to get hunting I didn,t remember to put a sled in the truck so 2 geese was more than I wanted to haul out. A slow walk and a smile on both our faces had me glad I chose to goose hunt.
What a nice end to remember the last day of 2010. :)
