Saratoga Lake

With the bridge closed across the Northern end of Saratoga Lake the water has been kept from freezing around the work area. Fitch Road has solid ice for crappies/perch/bluegills/pike/pickerel, but still has open water toward the center of the lake. Not many walleyes being caught in this area until water freezes more toward the middle of the lake.
Hope all had a very Merry Christmas and looking forward to a great 2011!

Finally got out again today on Lake Lonely around 2:15pm, but just jigged for perch/crappies. Got five crappies in the first fifteen minutes and then only few more in the next hour and a half with all fish returned. Beautiful day with plenty of sun, no wind and solid ice. Surprised to see more signs "Posted Private Property" along the trail. Hopefully all the abuse by snowmobiles/four-wheelers last years isn't going to cause problems with our access route to the lake.
Didn't bring along my power auger, so I just used my lightweight jigging pole. If nice weather continues I will probably be out again or try Spier Falls on the Hudson tomorrow.

    Art:

We hardly had any snow at all. I only snow blowed my driveway to keep the small amount of snow from melting and forming any ice on the blacktop.
Found out the "Private Property No Trespassing" signs were posted because of duck hunters on Lake Lonely firing toward homes on the hill. Also was told that Saratoga Springs Police will start tagging cars on 9P(Union Avenue) for parking on the side of the road if there gets to be too many cars/trucks by trail heading into Lake Lonely. Today there were the usual 14-15 cars/trucks to start the weekend ice fishing on Lake Lonely.
Fitch Road on Saratoga Lake has solid ice and good fishing for jumbo perch.
Hope you got your Vexilar situation corrected.

    Hey All,

First time ice-fishing on Saratoga Lake. I am guessing from this thread the best place to park is along Fitch Road and drag the shanty out from there?

    Thanks.

    Danger,

There is also access via the south shore marina..... the guys there charge you a fee to park but it might be easier to drag a shanty via there boat launch entrance..

I am going to try the Fitch road section either Saturday (tomorrow) or Sunday. Depends on when I get my shanty finished.

Finally found a hand auger, seems like all you can find are the gas one's.
