If you don't already, I would start by washing all of your clothes in scent free detergent. Leave them hang outside to air dry until you are ready to hunt(don't put them on until you are going to be walking into the woods. Keep your boots out side as well. Spray down everything that you are bringing into the woods.

Two other things here: Pay attention to the trail you are using to walk into your stand as the deer might be smelling your boots if you are walking through the same area as the deer are using. If that is the case find another way into the stand. The last, most obvious thing would be to stay out of that stand until the wind is blowing in the right direction, if the deer are coming from downwind of you regularly you need to stay out of there until it blows in your favor or put another stand downwind of where the deer will be.

    Good luck.

Is it repeated snorting, meaning the same deer standind there blowing several times? If so, as the leaves have started to go off, you may be skylighted to the area where the deer are at, and they are actually seeing your sillouete against the backlit sky. Typically though this involves repeated snorting as they try to figgure out what you are.

wash all clothes in scent free detergent.and yes i spray everything down real good. wind could be a prob cause stand is surrounded by hills so wind swirls sometimes.and yes it is repeated snorting from the same deer will do it about 8 to 10 times then i can hear him leave.

It is nearly impossible to become scent free enough to fool a older buck that is downwind of you. Your best bet is to take reasonable percautions to reduce your scent but in no case hunt where the wind is blowing in the direction you expect the buck to come from. If I get busted by a buck in a area I stay out of there for several days. If your hunting an area where the wind is constantly changing direction you need to change location.

Is it just me or what.. ?????

I can not recall ever getting snorted at by a buck, they usually just leave quietly and quickly if I am busted...

Since you said ""then i can hear him leave."" that's what made me think about it...

If it is a buck maybe he is grunting (not snorting from smelling you) in some way while marking his territory ???

start by washing clothes and body in scent free detergent. turn clothes in side out so they dont fade. store them in scent lok bag. how high are you hunting? you wanna be a 20' or higher.

They snort at me. However when it is the multiple snort action from the same deer in the same spot, it is usually because they know something is wrong, but are not sure what it is. I have had this happpen when I have been seen, but the deer couldn't smell me. (often)

As long as I have been hunting the only deer I can remember snorting are those big ole does. They have busted me in every state(WV,PA,OH,NY)that I have hunted. They just know when something is not right.  I still think a mature doe is way harder to kill than any buck. But they taste like old boots when I have slayed them!!

It's mostly the does and sometimes younger bucks but I have had a few older ones do it also. Usually it's just once or twice and they are gone. The damm does carry on forever it seems. Sure can ruin a hunt in a hurry. If you play the wind correctly you can smoke your cigar and still bow kill them. Play it wrong and it doesn't matter how hard you try, they will bust you. Akitadog is right about height helping carry the scent over them as long as the temp isn't dropping.

Sounds like to me you're over hunting this spot. How often are you hunting this spot?I don't like going to a spot more then once a week. Now in the rut i'll hunt a spot that holds big bucks everyday but not in the early season.

Also learn to play the wind,we have stands and ground blinds set ups,YOU CAN NOT HUNT A STAND EVERYDAY,YOU HUNT THEM WHEN THE WINDS RIGHT FOR THAT STAND,and yes my guess is you are over hunting that stand,to me a big tank doe with fawns may be the toughest deer in the woods to kill, they can smell you when others can't,through the years I've had doe's bust me while bucks where chasing them, I love when they snort all through the woods and wont give up,you might as well call it a night and get down,I can't ever think of one time I killed a deer after a bad snorting hunt.

This should answer a lot of your questions.Probably the most commonly heard vocalization by deer is the alert snort. It is almost always preceded by the foot stomp. Mature and yearling deer of both sexes uses the alert snort when imminent danger is detected. Many times deer will escape to the edge of what they consider the danger area and give repeated warning snorts to alert other deer. This vocalization is made with the mouth closed while the deer forcefully expels a single blast of air primarily through the nostrils. Deer in family groups more commonly give alert snorts. Members of buck groups rarely give a repeated series of this call.It doesn't nessacaraly mean you stink just that danger is present. Although most bucks will flee away from danger some will snort, mostly inmature ones.

A few years ago my wife and I were hunting on the ground and had a little buck get behind us and snorted at us for 15 minutes. within 10 minutes a big fat doe walked right up to us. she took a shot at her and clipped a twig and missed. It was pretty intense seeing that the was only a few yards Way!

I've had doe bust me, then lead a buck right past me as if to say "get this guy off my tail". Anybody else ever have that happen. It's happened more than once...

Check this out, one time last year right about this time i woke up in the morning and got ready for school. I always look out the window for deer. When i looked i noticed my deer target was knocked down. I didn't  think much of it until when i went to stand it back up the target was covered in blood. The buck that had banged my deer target was laying there dead in the creek only 40 yards away. Crazy story

Are you using the scent free perfume? I use scentlock clothing washed in scent free wash, spray down with no scent, and really dont have a problem being busted. I have been but not many times since all the scent free stuff is being used. I dont like the earth scent of fall scent stuff just plain no scent.

Be careful where you put your trail cam when you are hunting the same area..
Most of your mature bucks will only take a flash in the face once..
If you put your cam to near your stand you could be scaring the older bucks away...

My first bow kill (7point) busted me 3 times, snorted, ran off and came back to the Grunt tube each time. Last trip in was fatal.

Don't be afraid to talk(call) to them when they bust you......
