ohio reports

this is a thread for anyone hunting in Ohio this year. Any news of sign, food, weather and of course harvests can post up. I'm hoping to get over there this year for a few archery weekends and just not slug season. Good Luck to everyone venturing west.

No deer yesterday evening but almost a yote. Very vocal. Barked and howled for quite awhile. Had him a 37 yards but stood still for only a split second then gone. Just stated to press the trigger. Maybe next time

Hunt'n Ohio is a blast.  I've got a cabin in Marienville but now live in Richland County Ohio.  The deer out here are plentiful and seems much bigger.  Almost everytime I sit in the ladderstand I see deer not like Marienville of the present.  When I was a kid Marienville was the dream come true now the herd has deminished where I hunt.  Ya there's still deer but nothing like the past.  Not trying to stir up the believers that the deer are still there.

Well I scored on a nice 8 point here in PA last Thursday, so I'll be heading WEST soon. Trying to see what my schedule looks like. I think I'm going to put it off until the end of the month. Hopefully by then some of the big boys will begin to stir. Might try my luck this weekend chasing some fall browns at my camp in Ohiopyle.

JL have you been hunting at all in Ohio yet?

I just left Ohio (Knox county)) The rut is on ..Sat the bucks were chasing all day...I couldn't get them to stop so I could get a shot!! I seen 90 deer Sat morning..I'm sure some may have been the same deer..but..they were all going the same direction, so the count may be accurate.6 bucks, 2 were 20 pluss inches. This is my 6th year hunting there. I just can't get those monster bucks close enough. There's always next year..Good luck.J.T.

action was average this weekend. One big one sighted harassing a doe all other action was normal morning/evening movement.

With the Amish messing up my first day and the RAIN the second day,I shot a small racked 6 pt in the snow today 12-1-10 chasing a doe. Not the biggest deer by a long shot, but I'm getting sick of passing on Ohio bucks only to go empty handed and spending a lot of bucks on non-res tags. It's over.

Shot a 135'' 8 on opening day of gun in clark county. Not what I was looking for but the guy hunting the property next to me shot him in the back leg at 8:00 then he came by me at 1:30. Felt bad for him so I shot him

once again I passed on two basket rack buck this past weekend.... only to have them shot as soon as they crossed the property line.... LOL I felt like I was back in PA. The farmers nephew that hunts the farm with me shot a beautiful 11 point (10 point with a 3" dagger at the base) on Sunday. Scored 155"

Well I had my chance on Sat. A nice 10 point came trotting by at 125 yds. The only problem was a tree decided to grow in between us :) I smoked the tree spooking the buck down the hill to my buddy who shot him at 15 yards. All in all it was a good season. I saw deer everytime I went out including 9 doe and two coyotes this past Saturday.

Muzzle loader season was fun but no bucks....2 days of seeing lots of does..and BIG does ...was making me wonder where are the bucks I was seeing in archery ?? Then we started finding sheds..from the local shops talking ,and my own findings I would say they lost the antlers early from the cold?? I have never seen so many sheds in Jan before.

On the farm I hunt they decided not to hunt at the very end of ML season because several of the bucks had dropped already.
