Latrobe Area Sportsmans Clubs

Was hoping that you guys could possibly help me out. I am hoping to join a sprotsmans club in the Latrobe area. I am not from this area but find myself living here now. I am unfamiliar with the local clubs and would appreciate any advice.

I would like to do a little shooting, socializing, and definately be willing to help with projects.  It would also be nice to find a local club to run a bird dog now and then.

Thanks

I can't believe I forget the name of this club maybe someone can help me out. Club is located off of 981 New Derry Road. If your headed towards Derry from Latrobe it would be up on the right hand side. They float stock Loyalhanna (and do a very nice job spreading the fish out) All of the members that I have spoken with while stocking were very nice.

youngwood sportsman's club... if you're on 119 in youngwood, you take the road behind Hepler's Hardware and go out slate run road til you hit sportsman's road and its on the left a ways out there. my dad has been a member since the 70s of and on; they have a big pond for members only to fish in, skeet range, and shooting ranges, and i also believe that they stock pheasants out there... but may be wrong. it's a little bit of a drive from latrobe depending on where you are; but figure 20-30 minutes from arnold palmer airport.

there also used to be a club out in Derry, PA (just outside latrobe going toward Blairsville) called Millwood... if you have kids, they used to have a fishing day that you could take them to.

Don't know if it's still around/open but 20 years ago when I was a teenager, I had a friend whose dad belonged to the Police Rod and Gun Club in Slickville. Had a couple of nice lakes there that were well stocked, nice ranges & stocked some pheasants. Also had another buddy in college 15 years ago who belonged there and I think I remember him saying that the club had some leases around that area with farmers as well.

    Probably 20-30 minutes from Latrobe.

Also a couple that I remember (again 15+ years ago) in the Ligonier area. Laughlintown Sportsmen and Ligonier Sportsmen. Not sure what their facilities or clubs are like, but I know that they had a lot of leases or owned property around some places that I hunted up there. From what I remember though, those two were really tough to get into. Have absolutely no idea what you might find in those clubs these days though.

The Police R&G Club at last look had a waiting list of 2-3 yrs to even be considered for membership. I was a member for years until I moved away...great club.
Mr. Crappie that's the one I meant Keystone in Hannastown, been a while since I've been in the area. They did have a nice indoor pistol range and a good bird stocking program.

Can you just apply for membership to these clubs, or does someone who is already a member have to sponsor you?
