Lake arthur fall perch run

Any general info on the fall perch run at Arthur??? Time of year, water temps, general patterns? Tactics or baits? No spot burn just general info would be helpful... Love the lake and have heard the perch run shallow up into 528 area in the fall... Be glad to post our findings when we go just wondering if it's too early or too late... Thinking minnows and crawlers in the old stream and road beds... Any thoughts on the pattern and what to expect would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Be glad to team up with you all here and share whatever we might learn... Just trying to get a general feel for what the fall perch run on the lake is all about. Thanks again!

Perch run, eh?  Perch hit all year at Arthur.  There's no "run" if by run you mean a mass movement from one place to another... they are always everywhere.  Arthur is a small lake.  You won't find any "perch pack" or any of that nonsense.  The only place I've ever seen several boats all in one spot is at night where everyone thinks the stripers are (protip: stripers are everywhere).  Minnows and crawlers will catch you nearly every fish that swims in the lake, and certainly those catch perch.

Good luck in that shallow 528 nonsense.  They opened up the prop area a while back.  We spent a day up in there and it is complete BS.  The whole thing is 2-5' with no structure and it is a dead zone.  I am certain people fish that water and catch fish, but not this guy.

      Gl,

You can catch more in one day now than you might catch all spring/summer combined. Went down for brunch today (couple hrs.) for dinner & even though the L/M were as plentiful as the Perch still had enough to share with another fisherman that wasn't having any luck with his minnows. Thought maybe it was Z.S.  Prob. kept 'bout 20 for home. The wind was a chiller biller though

cf, the same at pymy.  they bunch up and move shallow later this month and into next.  really nice fish too.  the secret was kept quiet for years.  i stumbled upon it about ten years ago.  those in the know catch buckets full.  it is as you say.

That sir, is a bold statement.  I will put this to the test Saturday.  Which was downgraded to a high 56.  :(  Might have to wear actual PANTS.

Fall perch run my butt.  Windy, cold, and the perch were all super dinks.  Lots of them... but they were spotty not grouped up.  Full disclosure: we fished 2-6 fow near weeds in the coves near McDaniel's launch.  Probably should have gone 528 side but mleh, hate that side.

Did manage a nice cat.  Who bit on a half a worm on my bluegill rig.  SIGH.

Same at Pymie today. Wind cut right throu ya. Started at Jamestown Marina, ended along the wall at the 285 cause way. Had to be within twenty feet of the wall to get any relief from the wind. Landlovers were catching from the wall as well as a group of boats trying to hide from the gales of October. Unfortunately, all dinks and dinks they were. As they say in the old country.........

Thanks for the info and the kind responses... I was just speaking generally... I read a while back on the pa fish and boat page about the perch generally being more cooperative this time of year... Not a "run" exactly but just a general movement shallow and a willingness to bite. I appreciate all of the help. Time and resources are precious to us all and I appreciate all of the helpful responses. Thanks!!! And best of luck to all who brave the chill of fall to chase some panfish!

Largemouth seem to be on a similar general movement.  It seems like when the largemouth turn on, the perch go in hiding.  One thing that I noticed, is adjusting your depth makes a huge difference.  One day they are on the bottom and unwilling to bite anything on a bobber.  The next day, you need to have your bait 6" from your bobber.  I follow the same general rule as pike fishing, if you aren't catching weeds, you aren't catching fish.  That said, I try my best to adjust my depth to be right above the sunken weeds and cast to open spots, rather than right in the weeds.

Agree with this one.  First three fish I caught were LMBs.  All around 13" or so.  And they hit most of the day.

I am well stocked with crappie. Tried fishing Pymie this past Sat. during the gales of Oct. and caught zilch. Thinking it might be worth a trip south to find some perch.

LOL we all need to have a freezer swap.  I'm full of perch, walleye and trigger (from hatteras).  Couldn't catch a crappie to save my boat.  Think we saw two on Sat.  Dinkers.

      Yeah,

0% chance ov rain right now on www.weather.com but is raining as I type . 25 mph gusts with thunder/rain forecasted for this eve./tonight. Guess it's gortex head too feet tonight. Do better with some wind but 15-20 might be a little tough. Might be able to work in my favor though.

Only fished the lake a couple times all yr. 'till a week or so back. Hope to get some slabs & pike in the freezer in the next few weeks then try for the Eyes later this month into Nov.

Wouldn't it be great to have a job where you are not responsible for your mistakes?

I was sure it was to be clear and the temps in the upper 70s for my region today. Sure am glad temp. is in the upper 60s cause the rain would be cold right now.. (lol).

Would like to get on the water myself but, think I'll wait til Thursday. Weatherman says it will be?????????

Catch a stringer full and be safe.

The weather was ok and the wind picked up a little each hr. Did hear a large tree fall on a hillside not far from me. It turned out for the most part a waste ov minnows on L/M & Gills. Had to move around a good bit to get away from 'em to get on enough Perch to make the trip "worth while"  Think I'll stick to after dark for Crappie till the water gets a little more cold for the Perch.

      Hey Tim,
Brought home a fish to get a photo for you, thinking you might have interest in it. Gotta take it back this eve. to let it go free.  Maybe get Timmy to post it for me on here.

    Spotted channel catfish?
I sent to the PFBC, to make sure it wasn't something to worry about the lake's health.  The biologist said that they see them all of the time when trapping (in all different lakes).  It is some sort of catfish disease.  Not uncommon, but didn't have a name for it.
The wind is nuts here now.  The trampoline from my neighbor two down from me, is on my back hill all bent up...  I had to take the bottom cloth portion off, so it doesnn't blow into my deck/house.
