Rumor has it most Ontario tribs let loose so many ice damms this year that the population has been nearly decimated

At last Saturday's  annual tourney at Sandypond  3 or 4  were caught.   There are usually few and far between  there

Schroon 2/15 report:
Well the 4 day run turned into a 1 day shoot out.. The deep snow I dealt with here on thurs/fri really kicked my butt and after getting to Schroon at 1 am and fishing all day yesterday we decided to sleep in and head back home early.. I will be out in force again tomorrow at Jumbo Perch land in the am..
It was a strange day yesterday.. My brother in law was hammering them five feet away from me but I got no love from the lakers.. Thats fishing I guess.. At least the day was beautiful and ZERO crowds, not a soul out all day where we were..
Fun day for sure and I will be back to laker land for redemption in 6 days... Can't Wait !!

Here are just a few shots of the many fish he iced yesterday.. It was his best day ever..

Yikes!   That does look like a tough pull out there.   I have a wheeler and an  old 73 Panther snowmobile, but usually no way to get them to the lake.    I built a smitty and that sure does make life a little easier, but I begged out these last 2 weekends.  Just not feeling it.

I'm with ya clint... I had a chance to get out on the ice for an all day event today. Had planned since last week but decided not to a few days ago. After work all week and snow/daily chores its hard to get away from that woodstove

Why was your brother in law hammering them and you were not Rich? It can't be the white beard 'cause you have one too,I don't think it was his grin 'cause you have a nice grin......I bet it was the blue pants WITH the YELLOW towel hanging out that lured them!!!......You have to get the blue pants with a yellow towel too!

Jack, the only thing I can compare it to is being 3-5' in the wrong spot on the SR even though we had a whole lake..
Surly not the beard or the Grin as those things were equal..
Speaking of which, I may, just MAY be ready to give the legs and back a break next week and take the easy route to moving water with packed down shore lines fishing instead.. A bump to 500-750 would be nice..

If it thaws and rains like they are predicting it may take a couple of weeks to get below 5-6000.

Well they did bump Friday back up to 46 as a high... but as of now Thursday night is calling for a major ice storm. Time is gonna tell for this one I think. If that cross over happens late and Thursday night is mostly rain I'm sure a flow bump will be in store.

Just getting off the ice at jumbo perch land ( son is driving ) and if , when it warms up its going to be really sloppy. The weight of all that snow has pushed the water up on the ice there is 6" slush between the snow and ice. Oh yea, fishing was OK

Its quite evident that the weather conditions are the ultimate topic of choice...lol

Tuna some friends of mine were out on a smaller lake in Onondaga county and claimed the same conditions of the ice...on the other hand some friends were well up to the north...way up... no slush there

I went out today with my friend Jim.   It was nice to be out with an old friend.   Had a choice of 2 spots.   We picked wrong.   We got about 15 keepers in 6 hours,   folks 100 yards to the west got 40.   Right place, right time, wrong spot...........

Yea but at least you got out and had fun with a old friend.
Pouring rain here . Ice will be shot until this slop freezes back up next week. Might be my first week since dec-5 I won't be ice fishing. I see the SR got 2 bumps up today and if things up there are like here it will go WAY up

Rain held off, but windy. I was with a few friends so  I did not bother with the shanty and it was not that bad except for the wind.   My friend Jim and I got 23 keepers above 8 inches.    Almost 10lbs fish weight and about    1.5 lbs of fillets.  Biggest 3 or 4  were just under 12   many at 9 and 10

Sorry folks for not updating this thread much.. Really I haven't been taking a lot of pictures lately nor have had much great catches to report but I'm still out there..
14 weeks straight on the hardwater and now have my goal set at 20 !!!
Yesterday was a fun as heck day on Lake George chasing lakers.. A good group of my friends came out to play and the weather was awesome..
a few steel rockets hit the ice and a heart breaker that I lost got away after an epic battle right at the hole..
I lost a brute that came up from 100 fow and railed my lure 10' under the ice only to rip line and scream the drag back to the depths , many times.. After about 15 mins I thought it was coming to hand only to have the hook pop out right in the hole.. It was a heart breaker for sure !!
Anyway, hope you are all surviving through this long drawn out winter but I'm LOVING it as it has been my best ice season EVER and going for 20 weeks straight , heck I might sneak out later today after house work is done :)

Perch bite was Horrible today.   Fished 5 hours and only a handful of keepers and they were small at that.   Only 1 or 2 week left here

Why you think only a week or 2 Clint ? Is there flows happening into the pond, lake going to screw it up ?
There was 20" of thick clear ice on LG and some other places are close to 30". It's going to be around for awhile yet here.
My 20 week run might get derailed. Rob S just called and is itchy for another shot of redemption at the SR. Might be a 2 day foray on 3/22.
Keep me posted and come out to play if you can.

Although around  16 inches it is not clear ice due to several thaws throughout the winter.    I can see it going south with a few days in the 50's and some rain.   Shore ice goes first and it goes fast, then there is no way to get on.   Hoping for 2 to 3 weeks , but we will see.   Next few weeks the Hog females start showing up in bigger #'s too.

I guess I am having wishful thinking with a nice warm up too, although the 7 day forecast looks on the cold side though

I hear ya Clint.. We haven't had much snow and only ice cold weather so it's all black ice in the ADK's..
Going to get, stay in the above freezing zone during the days here (below the blue zone) with an inch of rain predicted on weds.. Could be bad but if nights stay as they say it could be fine.. Really want to get the grandkids out next sunday at the local perch farm :)

BTW:
whats up with that RobS posting, approval pending ?? Is there a top secret moderator that must admit one into the loony bin ?

That should be snow here, but we will see.   Took dads truck down to the local guy to change the battery cables.  $ 300 Chevy only pieces, pair that with the starter  $(347) that got ruined taking them off and a new battery and he is close to  $1000.   Hopefully that fixes the no start and the plow issues.   Like dad says though, if it lasts more than 3 months he is back in the clear due to no payments on it

Dad has used and abused that 3/4 ton more than anyone could of thought on the farm.  Loaded to the hilt with hay, wood, feed, manure.    Driven in the woods where most would not even dare.   Plowed more snow than I care to remember.   Hell he even backed it through my house.   $300 for cables  ($168 for positive and $85 for negative plus tax) from Chevy is out of sight though.   He said he could have made them, but there was a fusable link built in and special ends or something and pair that with his time and he said for $50 more we would get a better quality cable.    Should have done the repair, but as I get older I hate getting under a car with rust falling in my eyes.   Labor was only like $250 or so and worth it in my book.   Heck I often tell him I will pay 1/2 the labor so I DON'T have to do it.

He did teach me well, but  mechanics, home repair  and fishing were not among the courses.   In those he has just enough to get along.     Sports, farming, and being a good person were on the list though.

Today was week 15 ... It was a day for the little kids..  Yesterday was 55 degs, today was brutally windy and never above 30.. What a struggle ..
We all managed once the shelters were set and the heat turned on.. The fish were there, they were willing to play with the kids too..
