I don't like seeing steelhead on a rope.  But, taking one steelhead out isn't going to turn the SR into Erie overnight.  The creel limit in Erie helped wreck that fishery, IMO....Northern Ohio has the best rivers for steelhead but the legislature won't increase the stocking numbers.  Hey, why don't you guys write Ohio's congressmen to increase the stocking numbers, that will keep me home .

Thanks for the concerns guys -am back this time as r3g3. Lost electricity to the putor some time ago and got bounced off  firing it up again.
Couldn't for the life of me recall or find my new password so it was easiest to just re register.
Havent fished all winter and since this IS a fishin forum kinda just been lurking-been enjoying the reports from those who have. Hard and soft waters----
Been in and outa Pulaski a few times this winter but limited to household chores.
Only have one observation right now--
Not seeing the urgency some  do with the Altmar Jailhouse and  the PFR-  PFR has  been reported as being on the deeds for any new owners of properties where they were purchased throughout NY.
Reading around other forums there seems some doubt the place Tailwater bought may even be river frontage.
Kinda have a personal opinion they were looking for a guest parking area on the more fishable south side- just a thought. Frankly could give a hoot why they bought it as long as the PFR is secure.
Nice to be back among fishermen and friends, any PMs (can I say that ) sent in the past couple of months have been lost with the re registration.

This doesn't sound good.  My thoughts and prayers are with Jim Kelly and his family.

He was nearly as bombastic as the Charttroll when he was first playing, but realized pretty quickly that it was not a good idea to get critical of your offensive line.  By the end of his career, he was a truly great sportsman, and he has been very active in charity in WNY since.  Our prayers will go out for him and his family.

Jim Kelly is a Penna. native and dreamed of playing at Penn State. He was recruited by Joe Pa when he played HS ball....but as a linebacker! Jim said he wanted to play Qback.Joe Pa said no he will be a linebacker, with that he turned down Penn State and went to Miami. His first varsity start was of all places at Penn State,it was reported he threw up in the locker room when told he would start that game. With that he came out and lead Miami to victory that day,I wonder what Joe Pa was thinking about his insistance that Jim Kelly was a linebacker!
By the way I'm a Penn State fan and was n't real happy that day either.

In defense of JoePA, Kelly didn't exactly tear it up while at Miami.  It wasn't until after he graduated that the Hurricanes won a national championship under Coach Schnellenberger.  Kelly came into his own at Buffalo leading his team to four consecutive Super Bowls.  Even if they didn't win that's quite an accomplishment.

The Bills recruited him and gave him some quality people to play with.It takes a team to win a national championship.

Ya cant make this stuff up---
Guy I used to work with took a sick day and went out for the CT opener- Picture featured in the Hartford paper- he got a verbal warning on the sick day
Next years opener - he was fishing in the background in a Hartford papers photo featuring the Governor on opening day- yep- sick day again- more discipline was applied  lol.
Couple of years later this same guy hit the Lottery for  serious $$$.
There is a  message in there somewhere but I cant seem to put my finger on it.

Nope not Fritz but a guy well know to both Joe and I. A real well liked and comical  character and an avid fisherman. Became a harbor master someplace in Florida after retirement.

So off on another tangent.   I FINALLY got the check engine light to go off in car.   2  O2 sensors and a bushing to pull the downstream  O2 sensor out of the exhaust stream a bit worked.   My buddy lent me his $500 Snap On code reader with live data and O2 sensor testing and I instantly found the issue.   Best thing is he bought a new one that does ABS so he told me I could keep this one on a permanent loan situation for storing his camper and car  at my place for the past few years.

Lit them right the phuck up this morning.
Hard time landing them but hook ups and fights were were plentiful.
Went over at first light.
6 hook ups in the elevator.
Fished til 7:30 then home to get ready for work.
Kinda rushed that process after the morning I'd had.
Was back fishing just after 9 and stayed til 11.
1 more in the shaft then down to the tailout below.
Nice cast mend swing water and it was jammin with chrome.
Hook up about every 10-12 minutes til I forced myself to leave.
Why is it never this kind of day when I have a day off?
Single egg size glowbug in light roe with a red dot.
KILLER it was but then again I switched to a red and yellow west coast pattern (to fish real flies) and hooked up with it too.

Professor got a pair in the morning session on the boober.
Stevie Santa  got 1 in the second session.
They were everywhere and moving.
Now its a mud flow I'm sure but I'm an idiot and will try to get THE spot where they can find an eggbag in an inch of vis.
Don't expect a repeat but 1 big fish on the big water will be a real hoot.
Back to 15 pound tippet.

It climbed like crazy over night, pushing 1000 this AM.  Maybe by Friday, and then it will be up in Russo's or Eyre or Spring Lake.  Warm days and nights soon they will stop running so hard and start dropping into gravel and there is a lot just up and around the bends from the ES.  I had the gear yesterday PM, but I could not extricate myself from the employment scene until nearly 6, instead of the 4 I was planning, and by 6 it was very cold and very wet, so I bagged it.

Cool deal 2b , days like those are fun, fun , fun .
I'm not sure if I will see a steelhead again until next fall or get lucky on the lake.
Going to look at a starcraft islander this weekend .
Anyone have any experience or thoughts about them ?
I know they float kinda like a cork but heard to add weight in the bow helps . I love the layout of them and I'm all about metal no more heavy / faded fiberglass boats for me .

Don't know much about boats except that tin rocks hard.
Lucky it was a torrent.
Basicly no vis.

I touched two.
One was just on and in the flow before I knew I had fish.
The second fell right off and the bag was still good so probably had hung a fin.
Professor had 6 on .
I'm finishing some honeydos and then gonna give it another try since I don't know any better anyways.

Tuna-
When I bought my boat it was for Blues and Stripers in the Sound and Harbors and reefs but the choice came down to the StarCraft or Fischer.
I bought a 16 Ft Fischer with a 40 Merc- took the 40 cause ya could troll with it, had the higher sides and was fully carpeted with a side console.
Ads called it a Walleye boat for large waters.
Great decision- never looked back. Big enough to stand some wind and small enough to trailer anyplace ya wanted to go. Fast too. Light enough to get in tight places and ya could always tilt the motor up with a button  and not hit bottom. Was a v bottom but with the carpeting and length they put in a nice flat floor, easy to stand up and fish from.
It was a metal boat and with  the motor on a tilt switch   ya could get on plane with no bow rise  at  any speed  and the carpet made it quiet to be in.
Sold it when I bought my place in Pulaski after owning it for over 15 years- only took a loss of about 25%--kept it nice.

Maybe you can get Andy Caesar to stock steelhead into the Hudson. Tapen zee to Goshin could be Douglaston, everything upstream to the Troy dam Public Water! Think of how many out of staters that would fit!

L-13, worked with a guy who used to yell at me for not bringing salmon eggs home to stock in the Hudson.. He also said fish ate rocks for ballast.. He was a good old bird at heart, R.I.P.

2B:
Thanks for the pics :) Kinda what I picture the Ausable bout now.. No chrome though in them waters... Good for you at wetting a line, or 2..

R2D2 ? Lol
thanks for the advice.. I'm looking strictly cabin cruiser.. I have had all kinds of crafts, Big and small.. Mainly now small but with grandkids and the locations I'm thinking big again.. I hate heavy glass boats though.. My buddy has a 65 tin starcraft that is beat but it just feels right.. Fell in love with the islanders ( as well as 3 fans sport craft ) over the years camping at selkirk shores.. They just look right for me..
The 14' tin flat bottom boat in the yard now will once again start getting a work out on the Mighty Hudson this weekend ..
