Very true lucky. Although throughout the years, the only months I've never caught river steelhead were June and July. Last year could've been the breaker for June but didn't get out.

Charlie, the thought of fresh cut grass and smokey barbecue is putting me in heaven right now

the smell of a Smokey fire and charcoal sounds fabulous !! Heck, I have had a few already but doing so in shorts and tee shirt ... ummmmmmm
Pretty nice weather day today.. Slow melt going on here but a melt indeed... Most fields are bare and the streams are running moderate or still iced in.. Wont be long.. The Mighty Hudson is showing signs but nothing flowing south yet..
Hung out for awhile after work in the Daisy Mae looking things over for upgrades.. She as of now has wintered over well..
Rode my bicycle with the grandson for about 15 mins but he wanted to play in the DIRT, (farmer) ..
On to the garden.. A bit frozen yet.. It got me going though..
Really should start a greenhouse VERY soon.. As was last winter, things seem only 2 weeks behind "normal" ..
Heard rumor a few boats have hit the Great Lake Ontario (far west) and the Champlain tribs opened up with some steelhead (yes they have them ) around with Land locks..
Much to do in this Spring Thaw..
Stay Sane you Eastern Lake Ontario guys, Spring is near :)

I have been thinking about a green house too. Weather was nice today and the snow is melting. Going to Glenn Falls on Friday. If I did not have to come back Saturday for a tourney with the nephew I would be bugging HT about a trip to Lake George. Probably going to spend the night there.

That sounds like a serious nudge towards tuna, clint...!!! Lol...!!! Saner than sane has been in a while around here... Still 12-36 inches of snow depending on where you go... Hung out at a friends place today and was disgusted by the sight of the hoards of fishermen on a Monday at the rt. 52 bridge. One side of me says good for them... But the other side of me says eff this!!! Have at em folks. Currently sitting outside listening to the peaceful sounds of life... Cut up about a weeks worth of slab cherry wood as it is getting cold for the next bunch of days... Small brake before loading it. Peace to all and tuna :)

Me and the nephew are going to Glenns Falls to watch the HS basketball semifinals on Friday, his mom is letting him skip school. He has been looking forward to it all year. He missed it last year.

Games will be all day, we are getting there at around 1330 I think.  Last Game is at 9 pm.  This is the younger nephew too, don't know if I could drag him on the ice with a snow cat. It will be a long day, especially if we do not spend the night. Wish I could swing it Rich.

I'm surprised there was no mega name for the big blowup first day of spring snowstorm .
Yesterday they were blowing it up at 3-6" , tonight , we might be lucky at a dusting and above Albany , zip.
Hope it didn't decide to see jack instead .

On the fence to try for lakers one last time. Shall see how bored I get.

Actually,  I think they labeled it "Ultima". Sounds like a discount cigarette or condom. I hope you go, HT- regrets suck . Still some time to get the DM ready.  I can't believe how gradually rivers are opening up. It could have been a horror show and still may, but the threat has lessened.
I've been driving by an area of big  river flats that are still frozen that become a pretty decent carp fishery in late April. I can just see the expanse of ice through the trees; still looks like a field. I've had a few great sleigh rides in my yak there.   Between  ice out trout, dropbacks, pre-spawn  pike, walleyes, smallmouth, carp; lots to choose  from coming up soon. Then it's May and all bets are off, as everything explodes. I don't have enough time to get ready. This winter is almost in the trash. Hoo-f'in'-ray.  Hope "Ultima missed you, Jack.

Got at least 3" on the ground.  Just enough to break out the shovel or perhaps the snow thrower one last time.  April 1 trout opener should see conditions that are high and cold.  I could be fishing in flooded timber at my favorite local spots like I did a few years ago if we get a rapid thaw.  At this point rain will make matters worse.  A lot can happen in the next twelve days.

we got about 2 1/2" of snow.. Enough to dampen my spring sprit..
I was hoping for a nice spring day this weekend and just don't feel like going out on the ice... Looks like my season may be over..

Sounds like everyone is bummed. Weather was not too bad the last 3 weeks or so compared to how it was for the first 3 months of the year... But enough is enough. We can only hope for an average winter at the least for next year. Two record breaking winters in a row really takes a toll on everything. We have been getting Dustings almost on a daily basis for a while now. Another cold snap is coming upon us again now. Shack nasties are getting bad for sure. Its good to force yourself to do something to keep your spirits up. Hang in there everyone. The 30 day outlook has some 60's in it!!!

Well we got 6 inches of heavy wet snow so I had to snow blow my LONG HILLY driveway AGAIN,I really hope this is the end of it!Today the sun is peaking out and the temps are supposed to hit 50 this afternoon so the melt is on AGAIN.Temps are going to be up and down the next ten days with rain the middle of week,so it looks like my local fish outing is doubtful but April is coming and I'll be fighting the Steel in Ohio.

Trevor I think you're right. Two bad winters in a row. I came up on a few year old deer a few weeks back that were struggling to run through the woods away from me

One more week and it'll be dry fly fishing on Oak Creek. They hit an 80 last week. I'll wet wade!!!!! I was casting on the snow in the yard today, at least it's sunny. It's not unusual to see herds of 30-40 deer in the fields in my area. We are loaded with deer and turkey because of the very high percentage of farmed land. I've noticed some thinning this winter, and the deer didn't even attempt to bother my arbor vitae hedges. I spray them with repellent , but usually with heavy snows there's tracks around them, as they are deer ice cream.  Coyotes had a field day. Save a deer, shoot a Wiley. I watched several 'yotes run across the top of crusty snow, same with a fox.

Charlie those 70's and 80's on their 10 day look like a heat wave compared to here but I sure can't wait for those conditions locally.Have fun friend and don't stub your toe "wet wading".
I'm hoping the conditions calm down in Ohio so I can fish the main rivers and not the trickles.

Today was just a WTF day.. Cold this morning with snow slop . that kept me off the ice.. Water started flowing around 10 am so I figured I'd get some chores done.. Ordered 2 tri-axle loads of firewood logs, did the Lowes home project run and farted around in a tackle shop for awhile.. By then it was noon.. Sun came out and decided might as well go out back and cut some dried dead wood with atv.. Well Got stuck in a ravine, .. Thankfully the winch pulled me out but I had to sled all the wood out which was 1/2 cord or so.. ugh, that kicked my butt..
Then it got real nice outside round 3pm.. Milled around the boat, wandered through more mud splitting wood and thought about a chicken coup.. Snow is all but gone again, for GOOD I hope !!
Wish I went fishing instead !!!

Charlie, I would have traded all the above for an 80 deg trip in a heartbeat !!!
Enjoy the adventure !!!

Rain, snow, sleet yesterday. Made it GF and back.  Today woke up to a coating and the roads were a death trap, slid many times. Rain in the am then the  sun came out at around four, but the wind came  too

Took advantage of frozen ground and dense snow pack to front bucket out about 300 foot of over grown sprink creek today. Deepest snow was maybe 18". Glad I squeezed it in as I made absolutely no damage to the natural terrain and lawn I crossed throughout. Was nice to see one vein when done along with trickling water. Should dry up a good portion of grass land for me. Got sunny and beautiful late afternoon and got slightly wet and slippery. With the freezing temps coming up I may take advantage to bucket out other areas too!!! I am thinking about fishing some time soon but having fun keeping busy with anticipation of spring. Tuna, I'm having an 18-21 face cord load of logs dropped off soon for next winter. I may actually get some ample fishing time next season by the way things are going....

Although cold the weather wad good. Tractor is fixed for about $500 which is a bargain in my mind. New head gasket and removed the radiator so a small leak could be fixed

Wish I had home town shops like that around me Clint, that don't sound bad at all . Good luck :)
Yea it's been very cold the last few nights and the ground has stayed frozen throughout the days.
While I put my ice gear away over the weekend, I drug it back out last night and going to try the perch grounds after work today if I can still access it. There is a spring creek that flows right where the access is ( always flowing all winter ) and hope the damage isn't to great.
Also since I got the gear out I decided for one last shot at lakers April-3 ( Good Friday ) . Had thoughts for coming up to Pulaski but just can't bring myself to. I'm sure I will have all the room I wish on the ice :)

Looks like the last couple of winter days here in Ct--Next week is 40s, 50s and even a reported 60 day.
SR country is usually bout 3 weeks behind us -- hang on guys its coming.
Actually a slow thaw might mean no huge blowout.

Signs of spring here.....daffodils are poking out and tonight a BAT appeared in my house.Where it was hanging out I have no idea but there it was fluttering around during NCIS New Orleans, finally it went in my sun room where I confined it until it found the door I opened for it and flew into the night.
Warm and rainy predicted next two days with a chance of thunder, then cold for the weekend and then normal temps next week.
