I had the joys of flying out of Albany in the snow yesterday. Its crazy to say i'm happy to go to Michigan to get out the snow. My normal 30 minute trip to the airport took 2 hours and 10 minutes what a mess.

We got hit pretty good down here in the mid Hudson region.  I'd say we got 15-18" with a sheet of ice underneath due to the warm weather the day prior to the storm.  Clean up took forever with the wind, drifts and ice.

Had 4"-6" on Thursday, which was the biggest snow we have had this winter here. It was cold yesterday, but is currently 53 degrees and almost all the snow has sunk into the ground. Down by the trout stream thus morning, there were literally 1,000's of little black stone flies covering the remains snow. The birds were having a field day with the free meal.

Tiny Winter Blacks!

Around my house ( ~2 miles from Irondequoit Bay) every time it has gotten above freezing and the sun has come out, there have been swarms of little terrestrial crane flies hatching.

There were some larger ones today -- about 1-1.5" long.

We get the TWB's and also some early brown stones that are about 1/4" bigger.  Don't know what the bigger ones would be.  1.5" is a pretty big bug!

Snowing all day and windy, about 6 inches fell. It is still snowing at about the same pace. It is hovering around 30

Seems like my local panfish spot fished well. Bass, crappie, gills and phat perch were iced this weekend. I drilled 3 holes in 2 days and had a blast with players.
The drag out yesterday sucked , drag back was doable with 3 stops. This morning it was 2 stops on way out and 4 in after 3 hrs fishing.
Yard is plowed and clean up but still heavy wet stuff falling.
Maybe the salmon river was easier but the fishing and lack of people have done me good today.
Back to jigging Lakers next weekend, panfish during week then lakers again on the 23 -25th. Hitting pike waters on 4th lake at seasons end then I'm done.
Whew! ! Hard to believe only 3 adventures left on ice 2016-17

2-4" of snow and wind gusting at 40+ MPH forecast for my little piece of Penn's Woods. Sustained wind out of the West at 20 MPH according to my official unofficial WeatherChannel weather station.

Indication of strong wind gust taking place as evidenced by the angle of my flag pole. Good Grief!

No ice on area lakes, even reports of boats afloat.... stupid groundhog!!

House lights are flickering, looks like I may get to play flashlights and generators tonight. Ohhh Boy!

Hope you keep the lights on Btdt.
We got plenty ice and now snow. Maybe it will blow off the ice . I was spoiled on the drags this year. Been fishing every week since December 15th. Going to get bored come March.

HT So far so good, lights are on just nobody home. Ummm What..... Wait, maybe I should rethink that.

Still strong winds with a smathering of wet horizontal snow. More expected in the early AM.

Afraid global warming IS putting the kibosh to any hard water minnie dunkin for us in NW PA.

Been reading and enjoying your stories on the thread. Also sulking, but that's just me.

Clint we got about 10 but it turned in to 2-4 foot snow drifts by morning :/

One of best days ever was valentines day weekend, 1992, tail of the town pool. Little blacks were riddled along the banks. Ice had just let loose the day before from the banks. 4 of us clobbered steelhead on anything black (mostly estaz) for about 6 hrs. Black estaz was hard to come by anywhere in town later that aftetnoon. Everyone sold out. Man I miss the pre-Internet days :(

Saw a Red Wing Blackbird at my feeders today. Trying to get a pic but the stupid thing won't say cheese.

No Robins yet, but the geese are getting goofy with their squawking and challenging.

Expecting to see the Sandhills returning soon. Love hearing their bone chilling Jurassic era calling.

Thanks to a stupid groundhog I'm thinkin on some fishin in my botor moat maybe soon.

Pretty sure the end is near. The sun was high and strong at 4:14 pm. Can still cast a line , of sight now at 5:30 .
Humm.. my ice days are dwindling but I'm kicking all the way till the large lady sings.
Hump day tomorrow then vacation indeed !!
Gonna try and pillage my panfish spot for all its worth this weekend with friends and family, put a smack down on trout and salmon early week then pillage some more before a last hurrah with jigging trout on the 24th weekend. Will see how stir crazy I become until my final ice adventure of the season on March 10th for adk pike , not saying I haven't walked water into April but have a feeling will be toast after the pike trip
My shots back to the salmon river would be March 2nd or April 10th.

Stay warm and stay sane . Spring is near .. Yuck

Re:Weather thread 2017/02/16 17:58:35 (permalink)
So this is it folks. T-minus 1 day and the 2nd ice vacation kicks off. It's been awesome to have a week off in December at first ice and now another at last ice . Yup, 2016 -17 season :)
Really the weather has been pretty kind since the big storm last weekend. We have had a little rain and sun to knock the snow down but also cold nights to keep thing tight enough to stay on top and not post hole.
It never got above freezing today temperature wise but I do see exposed areas melting from the daylight. Its 25 outside my door now and going to 15 degrees friday night then mid 40's saturday and 5p's on Sunday ,perfect late season conditions. Plenty of ice around.
With this I say ,
It could be my final lake trout push . I'm fishing for them on Monday, then staying in the area next Friday and Saturday.
Big tournament happens there on March 2nd. I will be nowhere found in that area.
The following weekend march 9,10,11 I'm targeting pike at seasons close .
If I have enough Gas left in the tank after 3 months of walking on water , I'm quite sure there will be fish to be iced .

We got 6 to 8 today with large drifts. Temps in the 20s . There is some ice at the east end of Oneida, but the fish are scattered and were the water is open. I will try a weekend up near the  border this Sunday and it my be over here

Day 4 on hardwater and I'm beat . Weather has been cooperative. From slush to needing creepers to walk on tight ice today. Again, I'm beat. Washed my gear of mud and fish slime. Tomorrow off then 3 day run at lakers.
Enough panfish caught, eaten and in the freezer for awhile.

No worries, I'm on a final push of the season. Maybe wearing a tee shirt tomorrow.
Might be visiting a town near you this spring.
Doubt I I'll be a lake resident this summer though.

What an amazingly beautiful day standing over 12" ice in 65 fow on an Adirondack lake.
Picture perfect and I've played with a few Lakers . So far they have won but I got a full 3 days to go and today is the icing.

Big swing and miss today. Went shallow, 23-45 fow where it's paid off lately.
Dead sea here even with traps out . Weather has the front in front. Foggy morning , sunburn off then cloudy rain showers .
Gonna spend tomorrow 1/2 day back deep.

The cold front is blowing through as I type, pouring rain and wind. River will go up fast, but I think it will be ok. I may get my little boat out in the next few weeks to get it ready  for a few early ice out trips
