Title for boat?

Bought a 14' seanymph and 7.5 honda for 300.
The trailer has a title but the boat doesn,t.
It has sat for 15 yrs. and not sure how to title this.
Has any one done this before.

Contact the fish commission direct. They should be able to start you with the right paperwork. They can backtrack the last registered owner through either the reg number on the hull or They may want you to find a hull identification number (HIN) from the tag that should be inside of the boat somewhere (the capacity tag). I'd jot down those numbers before you call in case they ask for them immediately.

    Good luck!

and BTW... congrats! that's a nice boat!... we have one
just like it that was made in Texas in the 50s and we love it

If you are lucky and the previous owner had the expired owner's card and it didn't have a previous title, they could just "sign it over to you" by endorsing the back of the old owner's card.

If they don't have the old card, your can take a signed "bill of sale" to a notary that does boat registrations and have it done that way.
If you go that route, you will have the option to apply for a title at that time. (just curious, was it an auction buy?)

If there is no HIN for the boat, the Commish will issue a "special plate" to the boat.

(just a tip, you might want to request a max HP rating for the boat at 25 horses, might be easier to sell in the future if you want to sell it!)

Thanks guys..and gal..:) Had to go to the VA today so unable to do anything today.
I bought this off of Facebook: Mercer County; For sale, trade,or free.
I guess this guy bought it off of a fellow that worked with him but never titled it.
I asked them if they could get a hold of him and see if by chance he might still have anything.
I was going to call the commis to see what they have to say.
Its been 15yrs. so who knows where the title is.

Chris..the owner previous to who I bought it from, told them it did not need a title because of its age. Its a 1977.
