That's a bit of a stretch IMO. If you were slow trolling or drifting colorado blade harnesses at 1.0-1.5 mph you might be close to 10'/oz. I would say you're closer to adding 3-5'/oz at a normal 1.8-3.0 mph summer troll speed. I've always figured 1 oz of snap weights equals 1 color of LC at 2 mph. What's more important than knowing precisely what depth you're achieving, is seeing what weight/dropback is working and duplicating it.

    Rooster,

The trolling questions are hard to answer in general terms because so much affects your presentation...
.... style/angle/size of bill on your lure
.... shape/size of blades on spinner rigs
.... diameter of line you are using
.... mono, flouro or braid line
    .... speed of travel
.... even the shape of your weight (water resistance can actually begin to create lift against your weight, so more streamlined weights will troll at more accurately predictable depths)

One definite thing I would advise is to invest in a book called 'Precision Trolling' which is available at most fishing retailers who
sell any trolling gear. It is a great reference tool and takes into consideration most of the variables I listed above.

1 oz gets you about 4' or in that area on a reef, reef with 200' out 28' deep add appx. 4 ' for every once of lead, we have been running anywhere from 3-6 oz. already this year and pulled feesh on them all, although this past week was a big meat bite for us.

Me too. I couldn't buy a fish off the sticks on Saturday...all came off harnesses and they had to have purple in them.

Didn't matter color for me I was up for the week 9 days in a row 24 or 18 in the box by noon everyday, gave up on sticks and started running jets with meat off the boards.

Of the 5 eyes we caught Saturday they came on 4 different baits. 2 on a watermelon harness and 1 each on copper confusion spoon, fire tiger thunder stick and a black and purple harness...

    Thanks for the links Karen...

I am running LC & mono. I been killing the fish in 70-74fow. They are all hoving arounf the 38-43 foot range. 5 color lc off the planers are my deadliest and my mono with a 3z torpedo has my deep diver in the 40' range. Had 17 by 830 Sunday and ended up with 27 by early afternoon. Running around 1.8-2.2mph

4 oz with reefs for fish around 50 feet.  Maybe even 5oz.  Depending on speed of course.

According to Perciosion trolling book. 1oz of lead 20' above the bait will yield about 33% deeper troll.

Also in the book it says that floating crank baits (reefs, bango hotntot...) are not really speed dependant (just flat lining), like other forms of trolling (lead core, snap wieghts). So going they will be abou tthe same depth at 1.8 as they are at 3.5 in some cases the faster you went the shallower they run, that was due to the extra resistance

for wieght like that do you guys troll with heavier line then just a  couple foot of  leader ? i cant imagine running a 6 ounce wieght on 6,8,10 pound mono.  just wondering. im geussing with wieght like that you wouldnt have to troll 200 foot out would you? i would just think if u let out 70 feet with that heavy of weight  you would still be down 30-40 foot . just wondering i dont know much about fishing big lakes for walleye, just havent gotten that far yet:)

i run 20lb fireline on boards.  Let out 50 ft.  attach weight then let out anywhere from 100 to 200 more feet. Works great for us

That's a lot of crankin. 250ft plus the line you let the boards out too. These old beat up shoulders cant take it. How long does it take to reel each fish in?

it takes a little bit and can be a pain, but you gotta put that bait in the zone.  it def. varies depending on where the fish your targeting are suspending.  our outside board line is usually around 300 ft.

Pink and chartrues has been the hottest color for me all summer, but watermelon, chicken wing and boy/girl has also produced consistantly....doesnt matter as long as you can get down to the fish it seems. 55ft down has been the norm.

Did you find a place to buy it? Have a link? 660 is quite a lot. I haven't found much comments on it. I would really like to know if it does what it's supposed to. Downriggers + depth/temp sensors are even more pricey & regarding the video this could be used with planer boards.
