It's putting down a lot of rain, but moving pretty fast.  Still a good ground soaker, but I wouldn't count on flow lasting for more than a half day unless there is more behind it.  Watch the gages and check the rainfall totals.

Speaking of the rain, my wife and I are watching a great lightning show right now. The cool thing is the rain storm is in Penn Hills and we live in Johnstown. I wouldn't have thought you could see it that far away as well as we are watching the lightning strokes. About 60 miles...WF

0.68 inches and counting. Chance of rain tomorrow. This should at least bring some chrome into the creeks. We shall see. I am going to wait for a good 1 inch soaker to make the trip though. I don't like how high the water temp is and if we don't get more rain tomorrow and Wednesday, I think this rain will bring in miminal fish. We shall see though. Just sayin.

the lake is still 72-73 degrees. I wouldn't get my hopes up for more than a handfull of fish. once it is in the 60s, then the rain will matter.

AHH yes  I am on the bike tonight and in some ways I am looking forward to the rain and in other ways hate it.  Yes I know my body will only absorb so much because I didn't ware my leathers today.

Agreed on the handful of fish. This happens every year, a few poke their noses into the creek. Yes they can be caught.

The rain we get now will matter later as well. Most of the creek water comes from it leeching out of the soil. A higher water table does three things: First, it keeps the soil draining more water into the creek so the creek stays fuller. Second, it keeps the soil damp and able to soak up the rain, that way we have a steady rise and good color instead of a blown out mud run when it does rain. Third, there may be hope for my garden yet.

I helped save my parents garden the last few years by getting them a couple 275 gallon chemical bins that they catch rain water from the gutters in. They fill them both up early in the spring and then run a hose from the valve, to the plants that need water the most. being able to give the plants a shot of water when it is this dry and they are about to produce is a huge boost to them.

I have a customer in erie that uses the bins, if you want, I can get you his email address and you can try to get one off him. They should be free, as they are just a waste item for them.

no way, last year the major run was in september and all of the steelhead came in and went the whole way up the creeks thats why people couldnt find the "numbers" they saw in years passed in october/november near all the heavily fished sections

all them steelies are up past foley's by 6am this morning... they'll be at 79 in no time on elk
