sleeping at the mouth of elk creek

any body know of a reason why you can or can not sleep at the mouth of elk creek, while fishing all night? we've been doing it for years, then a buddy ,(who lives nowhere near erie), said that it was federal land, and all camping was prohibited. we are leaving this thursday, to fish friday and saturday.

Yeah I think if you had and actual camp set up that may cause problems, but sleeping under the stars with your fishing gear, don't see a problem there.

You can sleep in your car at Elk Access if the fishermen don't keep waking you up.  lol It is Twp property.  You can not sleep in your car at Walnut.  This is Fish Commission property and not permitted.  This is my understanding.  Someone correct me if I am wrong.

The only thing better than 1 day of fishing is 2 days of fishing.

No fire. No fire arms firing one up or getting fired for being to cheap to get a hotel room.

Why don't you pitch a tent @ Follys End ? Its $12 a night with electric , nice hot showers and they have a little fly shop there that will keep you in the know. I like staying cheap too.... Ii usually take an electric heater . Gets cold on the ground.... There located on Route 98 south ( the road that comes out on Route 5 at BAC tackle & trout run. Just head south from there about 5miles on right as soon as you cross bridge that goes across Elk creek. Oh yeah take wood with you or perhaps find some on the side of the road .

I believe Panfisher is correct about the difference between Walnut and Elk creek access areas.  There is a big sign at the entrance to the parking area at Walnut with all the regulations on it, so if you are interested, check it out.

As far as fires, I am not sure what the local regulations are about burning.  Given it has been very dry lately, I would suspect there might be a burning ban on now.  You could check at the Girard Boro office since I believe they would be the closest local govt. office to the Elk Creek Access.  If they do not know, they should be able to tell you where to find out.

I know from personall experience...about 10 yearsd ago I was sleeping in my boat and my buddy was sleeping in his truck at Walnut. We both at that time received a 110 dollar fine...The warden said he wouldn't have caught me if I was not snoring so loud....lol

you can't take firewood across county lines, so don't do that.
I think they sell it there at Folly's tho. Most campgrounds do, and more than likely will not allow you to use wood that you brought.
I can't recall what kind it is, but there is a big problem with beetles being spread around from people transporting firewood.

Kind of a silly thing when we are shipping thousands of feet a day of logs and pulp wood clear across the state in some cases..

sorry, I didn't mean to imply that it was a law or anything.
I suppose logging companies would be aware of the problem and inspect the wood that they are transporting?
at least one would hope so...

kind of like the goby problem in Lake Erie, from the ships coming in from the ocean.
