Forums are a very good source of information, you just need to be careful about what you write..
Such as..
If you don't want people in "your spots", don't post them. If you don't care, and you're a very generous person, don't post any of them. I fall somewhere in between..

I give my input, but I don't mention my absolute favorite spots, or the spots I fish that are pretty much unfished by others..

And don't worry about other people ****ing at you for what you say. You can't please all the people all the time, and most of those people you can't please are on this forum. hahaha.
That's my 2 cents, take it or leave it, I'm used to people on here not caring what I think..

All my spots are located out in the 10,000 square miles of open water.  My favorite report however is the old standard 30-40 FOW straight out of walnut....That one always certainly narrows it down......

Better too far back, than too far forward.

localknowledge,

The internet isn't all bad and keep posting.  I'm kind of inspired by your situation because at 43 I can look foward to learning new trick as this old dog gets older.

am I selfish? maybe, but the internet is the last place you would want to post your success. esp. stream fishing.
Lake fishing isn't as bad, but go down to walnut tomorrow and you'll see the effects of the internet.

I understand that it can screw up fisheries..bad..
But most of the spots talked about are already well known, or right off main roads.

I never heard anyone talking about a hole in the middle of the woods on upper Elk(just an example).
When a lot of people start to give away spots that are harder to access, and actually some time and knowledge to find, then I'll complain.

localknowledge,
Posting an early observation, like you did, really causes very little harm.   Some people, who live very far away from the tribs, like an occasional "update".  It helps us plan our infrequent trips up to the tribs.  The important thing that everyone is trying to say is, later in the season people really don't want to have someone post about a place where they can find a modicum of solitude.  You can never be alone on the tribs from mid Sept till the end of November.  It's just that if you post about nailing 60 steel at the stopsign hole, then the next day there will be twice as many people there.  Me, I like to get out and walk.  I rather fish a small riff with 2-3 fish in it and be passed by by the easy access crowd, than spend 2 hours casting over 30 fish at the projects.
Hope you keep on posting.  At your age, I'm sure there must be something you have seen/done that will add to the discussions here on the boards.  Just don't give away specific places.  I once observed that I had seen some steel in the trench under peach street (4 fish).  I was new to the boards and I didn't know any bettter, I really didn't know the fish made it up that far.   The next day there must have been 20 people in the culvert, trying for the same 4 fish.

Last year I walked from Sterritannia to follys camp ground and saw a wopping 4 people and that was at the start of my journey. the jaggers are thick and the river hold alot of nice holes through there. No trails until you get closer to the bridge. Its the holes that are right beside the roads is where I see the most congestion. I only fished the manchester hole 2 times last year one day it was when the Steelers played the browns and erie had 15 inches of snow in a hour so I was lucky. then the next was late season. But when I went up in Sept last year I drove down just to see the funny site of a million guys fishing that hole. Steelhead fishing is so addicting. everyone who does it loves it.

I understand how no one wants to ruin the sport or harm the fish. Im catch and release 90% of the time I keep about 4 a year. I want people to enjoy it and see how much fun it is that why I report, when where and what. But thats in an entire day of fishing I move around so much between starting at walnut and finishing at elk. So I know Im not going to be able to give great detail. I always get to fish my 3 favorite spots and as you guys see I post them alot and I rarely have to deal with being  surrounded by people. And when those spots do have people I find a new one.

Duude -- You are sumthin else 16.   The reason you didn't see anyone else from Sterrettania to the flats is because they obeyed the posted signs.  Perhaps someone ripped them down.

where would there be posted signs? only area I saw them was around the 1 bed where there is a really deep hole below a parking lot but you can fish it from one side of the river. every where else I walked in the stream and didnt come across any signs. Every where else I saw a posted sign that people werent aloud on the section of stream there was a big sign that said no stream access. but not on that section i fished.

Just up above the flats is posted.  The other side of the stream is a cliff so you can't walk there.  The signs are pretty clear and start got above the little run above the old bridge.  I don't know how far they go upstream.

That's a tough call Kyler, there is no wet feet law for Elk.  The question is, does the same owner own the cliff side that put the posters up.  I'd just assume to stay out of it.

good call, I never thought of that. I didnt find that spot myself was taken there so I just figured as long as we stayed off the land and didnt walk through the woods or leave trash behind then it was fine. but I see what you mean.

would anyone know who owns that land?

might have been. i learned one thing though, dont put to much info on the internet.
there has been guys there every day.

Just figuring that out now?  All it takes is someone to say they caught such and such at so and so and before you know it, there are a bunch of folks there.  This is the bad part of the Internet.

Other sites esp. New York based sites have learned long ago not to post specific info on fish location. Not fisherie.
its really a no-brainer.
