Report and Observations 10/27/07

I arrived in Erie at around 10:30AM. I'd originally planned to drive over to the eastside and fish but because of my unfamiliarity with the mile creeks and a later start, I opted for lower Walnut. I parked off the route five bridge and basically fished between a little above the tubes and before the falls. Plenty of elbow room as I had a stretch of over an hour without seeing one angler and plenty of fish to cast to. I ended up fishing that portion of Walnut until about 1PM before heading to the access area just to see how crazy it was and what the lake looked like with all the wind (man it was windy today and the lake was kicked up pretty good). To my surprise, the Walnut parking area wasn't nearly what I'd expected.

Of course there were anglers fishing Manchester, Stop Sign, etc., but I expected it to be much more crowded than what I saw. I'm assuming most got their 'limits' early and took off? Anyone else notice this today?

Anyway, after all of that I headed to Elk Access for the rest of the day and quickly figured out that this was where the masses were and perhaps why Walnut was lighter on anglers than expected. I walked up an fished the ridges for the rest of the evening. Wanted to fish the Legion but ran out of time.

I caught a few fish today (the ones I landed were all at Walnut), probably three times as many breakoffs and many submerged leaves caught. No larger than 14's in a variety of colored sucker spawn, flash or no flash, glo bugs, black stones and pheasant tails produced good action for me today.

Walnut was low and gin clear and Elk had some color. Didn't see a whole lot of bizarreness today aside from a guy who Sebastian Janikowski'ed a steelhead onto shore at Elk.

Othat than the occasional shower it was a nice day to be out on the water.

No it's a glo bug. Anything bigger than a 14 and they refused, atleast for me anyway.

Ron, Nice fish you have there. I wish I could have gone with you today, since I live pretty close to you, but I am heading to NY on the 2nd for 10 days to fish and I had to get my honey do list done.

By the way, here's one more picture from today. Thanks to the gentleman kind enough to step aside and take it for me...

Notice the beat up trout net I have...I forgot my bigger net at home and this one was already in the car so I brought it just in case. It did prove useful on a smaller female earlier in the day.

nice fish, good report. Those leaves make the back drop beautiful .... but can be hell when in the water.

His mouth opened up as my fly drifted in front of him and that's where the hookset ended up, that's about all I can say about that.

Thanks for the compliment, though. Just a 1.3 mega pixel camera phone, nothing fancy. The scenery does the work.
