Tips for the weekend

I'm in college and love to fish. me and two of my buddies have made 6 trips up in the last year and were planning on coming up this weekend.  Any tips would be welcome, particularly on where to go and what to use.  we have been using skein and single eggs mostly with moderate success at walnut near the mouth and at elk last weekend.

    lmao

I'm thinking about heading up Saturday and possibly Sunday depending on how I feel after Saturday's adventure. If all else fails and it's wall-to-wall monkey's I wouldn't mind giving the bay/breakwalls a try for some breathing room.

i was there last weekend and it was a mad house with a lot of people, but there was a hell of a lot of fish and if you're patient you'll find a nice spot without a problem.  Hopefully with even more fish this weekend after the rains

I'd stay the hell away from the nut.  Well, anywhere is going to be busy actually.  Try some of the east side tribs.  As far as bait, bring it all.  You're going to see a couple of different conditions this weekend; from high and muddy Saturday (if we get the rain tomorrow) to a little lower and less muddy on Sunday.  Make sure you're bait is smelly so they can find it in muddy conditions.

Stay away from the streams all together, Hit the ore docks with spoons then Holland street you might have three or four anglers to chat with. I was at mill creek yesterday and was glad to see one other person there with a long handle net, hooked up four quick and called it quits. give me a call at the bait shop and I,ll put you on a fishing hole that no one goes to in the bay It's at the far end of the ore docks a bit of a walk but the fish are stacked at the corner,  your self and fishing comrades will have a banner day with just your selfs to blame for the tangles.

just got back from walnut fished in the lake off my boat. trolled both days. did good. Tues and Wed. marked huge numbers on the sonar. the fish are coming in real good. tuesday we had all the rain. walnut was high and muddy.people were still catching like mad. wed morning when i put in the creek was lower and clearer lots  of fish stacked side by side, but so were the fishermen. elbow to elbow. i would guess it will only get worse (fisherman). good luck.

Tip #1 - bring along a HUGE amount of patience.  You will encounter all sorts of people from wonderful human beings to criminals.  Work around the clueless, report the criminals and enjoy the great people.

Tip #2 - know the regulations about where you can fish, daily limits, possession limits, snagging fish, etc...

Tip #3 - DO NOT TRESSPASS, Litter, clean fish along the streams, walk up the middle of the stream, snag fish, catch fish with a net, get drunk and fall into the stream (seen that one happen), get into fights with idiots, etc...

Tip #4 - you do not have to keep every fish you catch.  If you are not going to eat the fish put it back for others to enjoy.

Tip #5 - get to the streams early, but realize there will be someone in "your spot" when you get there.  See tip #1

Tip #6 be ready for changing fishing conditions.  If we get the rain predicted the creeks may go up.  Bring bait and flies for low and clear and high and off color.

Tip #7 - remember to have fun.  Fishing is supposed to be relaxing, so relax.  Don't let other people dictate how you feel and whether you are having a good time.  see Tip #1

Do not do what these guys did!

I promised these guys I'd take it easy on them.  They got boxed in by the snaggers this morning, and were going to find a spot with fewer slimeballs. (not the easiest thing to do these days)

I hope you two found some hungry fish.  How many lectures did you miss?  Then again, I never scheduled any college classes before noon.

I see a new cash cow for the right individual... Steelhead Driving School.  Master navigating the dangerous tribs' access areas, and minor in combat fishing.

In no way do I accuse all owners of the cars pictured of being snaggers.
I do know that the guys that parked in front of them were netting the fish that were being foul hooked and roped by the other guys, which makes them just as guilty in my mind.  As for the car behind, the driver of that vehicle is known to be a reputable man of the highest caliber.  Sorry for any confusion.

I have one last tip or suggestion..... You don't HAVE to keep three every day.

Give Brian at PR's a break.  He probably hasn't slept for two weeks.

I can assure you, Young Jedi, the amount of new fish will NOT be proportional to the EXPOSION of  anglers this weekend
