I know that last year during the first week of September in shaded areas of streams we definely found fish, and a decent amount of them.  Last year on September 9th a friend and I had fish totally to ourselves and probably landed over 20 between us.  And no, I could care less if u believe me or not.

I believe you.  All I reported was I did not find any the other evening.  I am sure there are fish in the streams, but they are not necessarily in the places you would expect them and definitely not in the numbers you see in late fall.

No fighting, just the preseason warm up.   I can only wait for the newbie out of towner who needs to let the whole world know he actually caught a steelhead post the directions to someone's secret spot....  My advise for the newbies, look for the little yellow diamond shaped no tresspassing signs and fish there...  Oops, the cat is out of the bag.

I am glad to hear some others also had some early season success. I got my first of the year out of the LAKE on Tuesday August 21, right at dark, a bright 27" hen. I am yet to get any in the streams, but I have seen a few a jacks. But, I surely believe those of you that have taken them from the streams already, they are around, just in very small amounts, and only at certain times. I live 3 hrs. away from Erie, so my time is limited, but I bet you guys that live there catch quite a few in the early going each year, before the masses even think there is a CHANCE to catch one.

We fished the mouth at Elk on Sunday. I caught a drum and had alot of nibbles, but didn't see any steelhead there.
We also went up to the Legion hole so that I could try some fly fishing and didn't see any steelhead there either.
the water seemed pretty low and it was very warm too.

Yea, the creeks are a bit too warm for catch and release.
Unless you keep yur catch, its probably not a good idea to fish.

A friend caught 12 last Thursday.  Who was that fella that says every year, water levels have nothing to do with fish migration,  uh huh.  There are always fish, every year, at the end of august.  A bright sun in crystal clear water will put them back to the lake.  They don't come in far, they don't sulk, and only hold in a few places.

Me and two friends fished yesterday and this morning for a little bit.  We each managed to land a couple adults, and some smaller fish including a brown.  Water is warm and low, and as expected we need rain badly.  Not as many fish around as last year at this time, again because of the low water levels.

Talked to some guys who said they were hooking up at Trout Run in the morning.  If you're looking to take a trip to fish the tribs, wait for more rain.  If you absolutely can't wait, hit the lake shore in the EARLY morning.  The very few fish that are in the tribs have been fished over a good bit, and are spooky as can be...

Heres my first one of the season...

And my friends first ones of the season...

Wow it does look low!!! I was up in sullivan county this weekend and the streams are way low. I don't here any drought talk but the streams in PA seem low everywhere.

You guys found bigger ones than me. Saturday I found some jacks and caught 1, and 1 brown. Both only 15 inches.

uhhh, more than likely older than you, and not available.

nice catch fishrmn

We camped near the clarion river over the weekend and the water there seemed higher than normal for this time of year.
We didn't do any fishing there tho.
