Finally got back out this morning after the very quiet opener. Closed the deal on the 2 year old at 6:30 off of the roost.  I set up to close and was right in them when they started gobbling. I had three with the closest at 50 yards.

Congratulations dpms, I saw your write up on the other board. I haven’t even gone out, numbers are way down around my place. I typically hear 3 or 4 different gobblers around the house but this spring the only one I’m hearing regularly is our domestic one in his pen.

Got lucky on #2 this morning. Didn't hear a bird at first light but kept at it and finally got a bird to answer at 10:15. By 10:30 he was working up a logging road and I shot him at 20 yards. I had to shoot him standing up as there was nowhere to sit on the side where I could see above the multi flora rose. This guy had 1 inch spurs and a 10 1/4 beard. He was heavier than my first bird as well.

Was getting ready to run a couple of errands Friday morning and look out the back window and thought wow my tame hen is bringing in a new boyfriend. My gobblers were going crazy and when I looked at the pen I saw my hen was still in there. These were both wild birds that ended up going by the side of the house at less than 10 yards. I could have easily stepped out on the front porch and filled my tag but it just wouldn’t be right.
