Got into Pulaski Mon later afternoon  and travelled up and down the river to observe very light pressure from fisherfolks.
Got out on a favored stream in the AM on Tuesday and walked a 1/2 mile  area that- when they are spawning- is commonly loaded with fish.

A nice but chilly day for the time of year.
As soon as they finish up there they are GONE overnight though.
It was over there and they were gone- lots of beds.
Saw only two very dark fish on a bed and just watched the show for a while and got outa there for another time honored favorite spot.
Spot #2 had fish that looked quite fresh and pre spawn moving all over up and down  in a several hundred yard area.
Worked them for hours both fish that could be seen sitting there dodging my offering and dark holes and seams- LOCKJAW.

Went and sat in a spot along the River and no one could be seen up or down for a long way- A Bald Eagle flew overhead and soon a dropback splashed and jumped by heading out- Then fresh fish started zipping up right along shore where I was sitting- Never touched the rod - just enjoyed the show. That sit really made my trip- so nice and peaceful with fish around.
It had been a long fishing day w/o a tug and  left for the day after that great experience.

Wed started with very cold weather and a couple of inches of snow on the truck, flurries and sprinkles along with tiny little sleet balls.
Went to the same areas and found nothing- zip-
Fished for a long time in the holes -undercuts and seams w/o a tug or sight of a fish.
First day had been the spinner with worms that usually work just fine this time of year for me.
So the second day took the fly rod and kept changing offerings trying to find the solution.
Back to the room in the afternoon frozen. Temps never got outa the low 30s.

Was supposed to be there another night and fish Thursday AM but the weather said it was gonna   snow even more and be cold in the AM so I bugged out.

All and all a very nice trip after being away from there for so long.
Even though when making reservations last week the weather reports had said nice weather-- Yea right- its Pulaski -wait 5 mins it'l change lol.

r3g3, I was in town Sunday afternoon until Wednesday morning when I got on the road at 5 AM for the trip home.  Monday was bluebird day, Tuesday started with some passing showers and a bit colder.  Managed 5/7 each day.

Great -glad ya got into them.
I know I shoulda gone to another area out on the main river but just got tied into where past memories lurked and wanted to fish those spots.

Puckerbrush was calling and likely shoulda done it- havent been there in a real long time.

Nice to hear you both got out on a river we've all been discussing about for many years. Something I haven't done in over 4 years now. Time flies but memories always stay with me.
Very difficult to stay " in tune " on that or other fisheries unless you put your time in consistency. Blah on the internet heroes reports, I've had many of days just fishing and not catching in lots of places including there.
Good job guys

r3g3 from the information I gleaned from the guides I know and fish with the fish have been in the faster riffles with few in slower deep pools.  I hit fish up and down the river's mid section.  Sportsman was the slowest water I had success in.  The boulders, corner, glass, secret, compactor, papermill and 81 holes all held fish.  The numbers may be down but you could grind out a good day.  The key was finding highly oxygenated water as these fish are on the move.

Of course --LOL
Thats about  opposite of the way that I fished- I hit deep dark undercuts, seams, soft edges  and log jams- staying away from the rapids and faster waters.

Actually I had a great time and enjoyed it, fish or not- just being there is the best part of the trip IMHO - fish are just more cream on the top.

Spent evenings running all over the north country looking the elusive 2 3/4/ inch turkey loads and slugs---no luck

r3g3, you're probably better off you didn't find turkey loads because the prices are ridiculously high.  I saw some loads in my local****s a few weeks back, a box of 10 was a shade under $30.
