For the last 4 Sundays the Greensburg Tribune - Review has not had anything in the Outdoors column. I think that this is outrageous for a main newspaper. I have written them to complain again, but am surprised that I have not seen anything from other sportsmen about this. If you are interested in them having anything about the outdoors I suggest that you write or call the newspaper to let them know that we want the outdoor news to be re-instated. If we do not let them know, they will think that it doesn't matter to us.I am only allowed to write to them once a month, but I will write again when my time is up. If this matters to you please write to them.   sam

Our local newspaper has cut one outdoor writer from 4-5 columns (every Sunday) to a maximum of 3 per month (regardless of the number of Sunday’s) and the other one to two per month. What they get paid for these columns is very little, so the paper must be in real financial straits.

Both writers are betting they will be eliminated by year’s end.

dardys, The problem here is that here in Jeannette, the Trib. is our only choice for local news. I know that almost all newspapers are  becoming obsolete but what I don't understand is that they don't have a problem with pub. other sports, but just can't put hunting & fishing articles in. But what confuse me is that they still have some outdoor articles available on -line for free. It may not do much good to write but I feel that I must do something.  sam

Ours is the only paper too.

They will cut the local writers articles, which often deal with local issues, like CWD, local sportsman club events, and local outdoor personalities and will print Outdoor articles from the “wire,” because they get a lot of their other articles from there and it is already paid for, that are from other states and have nothing to do with PA in general and the immediate coverage area in specific.

This is at least 5 weeks that the Trib has had nothing in the Sunday paper for us outdoor enthusiasts, has anyone else beside me that has called or written to them protesting this,or is no one interested? This would not have happened even a few years ago.  sam

Who owns the newspaper?

Is it still local or a large, out of town publisher?

The paper is owned by the Mellon family. They are from the area.  sam

mr crappie if you don't mind me asking , why can't you write more than once a month ? that sounds strange.

bubbaman, That is their policy according to the latest response from them on my latest letter to the editor. Actually I agree with it because if not you would get some people writing the same stuff everyday. Also when the same person writes all of the time others soon ignore them. IMO   sam

I got a reply from the sports editor to-day that stated that their outdoor writer (bob frye) no longer works for them & that they are having a hard time finding room in the paper to put outdoor news, but that they hope to be able to put some outdoor items in the future. If they don't do that at least I know that I did my share to try to correct this problem.  sam
