Got that first deer in the freezer, so I decided to take Nina for a run Saturday afternoon. I usually avoid the first day of pheasant, but when I drove to the gamelands around noon there was only one other truck parked there so we gave it a shot. Put the first hen up within 10 minutes and a true shot from the Daly 20ga o/u had it on the ground slapping the dog in the face with its wings. That was all it took to get the dog pumped up and back in the swing of it.

Roamed around for a while looking for another. Few times the dog got "birdy" and I waited for one to flush, but nothing. Finally got tired of walking in the drizzle and told the dog we were heading to the truck. On the way back she managed to do her thing one more time putting up 2 hens. The Daly dropped another and we were on our way.

Pic of one super happy pooch

Hit the local gamelands on a dreary afternoon today. Only one other truck parked there when I showed up. As Nina and I worked thru the area, we turned a corner and out in the distance I managed to spot the only other hunter out in the distance sporting full camo and a shotgun. Now maybe he was hunting something other than pheasants that doesnt require any orange, but for the area he was in I think it was probably a bad choice. Once he spotted me he snuck forward and squatted in some bushes like I didn't see him. Decided to turn back and avoid any chance if an accident with this guy. Heard about 2 dozen shots from him over the next hour, so either he was hunting ducks, a **** poor shot, or bagging more pheasants than he should.

Anyway, Nina and I worked another area and put up 5 birds as she did a great job. 2 there was no shot at, 1 I missed (as she gave me the normal WTF look), and 2 roosters in the bag. Happy pooch again today 👍

WTF ....…  animals have that special trait of letting you know what they're thinking.   Great story, great hunt, great times and thanks for letting us be there.
