To Pymy goose hunters, I am new to this forum, but have a wealth of knowledge about the Pymy goose area. January is not a bad time to hunt depending on the weather, geese are not affected by the cold, other than they might not leave the water if it is not frozen yet. So I'll start at the beginning, you can get a blind most of the time because of no-shows and the drawing each day. If you have not been in this year you are a #1 and they go first, then there will be a drawing for the #2's. People don't hunt there much anymore because of a one goose a day and only get ten shells per person limit, there can be four people per blind and you can share shells after you get your goose. Someone asked about where to stay if you came up, only hotels in Meadville, about 10-12 miles away. To get signed up for the drawing you need to be there at about 6-615 am this time of year. Go to the PGC ADM Building on the Hartstown Road. That is between Hartstown and Linesville before RT 285 coming from Hartstown. Geese are hard to hit and hard to kill, if you don't have a choke tube for waterfowl hunting use a standard MOD tube for steel shot, bring BB's or #2's and at least 3in shells, you will see mostly 3.5 and some 10 ga guns. Always wear camo, no orange needed or required. You don't always need calls or decoys, but they help. Hunting day are M-W-F-Sa, the season goes till Jan 22.

Friday and Saturday,8-9 Jan, Should be better days to hunt by looking at the weather. They have less blinds open now and the don't open the front row to help with the sky busters. Blinds #28,39,35,36, 18-21 and #1 are the best now. If the handicapped blinds are not used #4 is good also. If the water starts to freeze #9-11 are good for open water at the spillway.

#1 Blind this week until today would have been a bad blind, the water at the end of the Propagation area has frozen and the geese are at the spillway where there is open water. I killed geese twice at blind #1 early in the season, right now the blinds around the Swamp road area are the best, there were 1000 geese there on Wednesday. It will be rough next week with the cold coming in as they birds won't fly, however it may bring birds down from Canada, season ends on the 22nd Jan.....
