Any one recently fish the outflow of Bald Eagle Lake/Sayers Dam?  I was just wondering how the fishing there was or on the lake itself.  Years ago when I attended PSU I fished that outflow often.  Hooked several huge muskies that my tackle at the time just could not handle.  Always wanted to make a trip back there so any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks and wishing all good fishing.  Bill

Im currently at PSU and fish the outflow often. Last trip there we were perching and did very well. Saw several people musky fishing didnt see anyone hook up. I have saw 2 musky there so far but no hookups I know of.

I've never fished it and always wanted too. I've heard that the walleye fishing is great there in the spring. One of the "problems" with PA is that there are soooo many places to fish. I love it!

Is this somewhere you have to hike to or is it kind of a short walk?  Judging by Google Maps you are in for a pretty nice stroll.

I've never fished it as stated previously. A friend of mine fished it all of the time when he lived up that way and he said it was a hike, but the walleyes were well worth it as many above 15" were caught. That was his story.

I would believe it there's probably a nice population of forage species, its likely to be around 5-10' deep and the O2 content is probably pretty nice especially if a discharge is reasonably high (Say roughly 100cfs) for a small structure such as that.  But, it looks like a pretty nice place to fish.

Take Rt 150, turn onto Sayers Dam Rd, then take right on Ridge Crest Drive, go straight until you reach gated area at breast. There's a wide road which ends at a gated entrance to the breast of the dam which is locked and blocked. I pull off to the side somewhere near the gate to park. After parking you'll have a good downhill walk to reach the outflow area from your vehicle, and uphill walk to return to your vehicle(Several hundred yards). The outflow, like most, does not cater to fishing. There is a concrete outflow box which is fenced on the high side, below the box is a fairly narrow, steep sided channel with large basketball size and bigger rip rap (rock) lining both sides, this channel runs 100 yards or so then widens out and returns to a natural stream bed. When fishing outflows keep in mind, flow rates are subject to change and current will kill you. On a lighter note, I was there with my brother once, a heavy thunderstorm pushed thru soaking us both to our underwear. After the storm, we noticed a lone bald eagle flying over the breast, circling, then landing on the high limb of a towering dead Sycamore tree. We had a pair of steiner binoculars with us and glassed the bird on it's perch for quite some time. It was a young bald eagle, continually outstretching it's wings, to dry them in the wind. It's no secret Bald Eagles nest in the park, go check it out!
