As for lock 8 fish the rock island just down river from the lock. Go early and stay late. Big suckers work the best unless you have a few herring. Its a little late to catch any herring so spend the money and get some $2 suckers, they will last a while. If the rock island isnt produceing any #s drift back to the lock side of the bigger island and fish 20-30yards of of the shore with live bait. Id just drift it with out any weight or bobbers. just a big azz sucker and a good steel leader.. I Know for a fact that this area will produce 40+ inch pike and good size musky. It is a waiting game though. There are some nice size bass around the islands that will keep you happy while you are waiting for the BIG bite.
This time of year is tough though The pike and musky will be ambushing prey and not seeking it out. The best time is when the pike season just opens and then again when the herring starts running. Now you have to work for them. Trolling weed lines early in the AM and late in the day will improve your odds. If you are fishing from shore, Big buzz-baits and ripping spinnerbaits will keep you in the musky mind-set.
I have caught manny of 30+ inch pike and musky from the wall of lock 8, but all of them have been hard earned.
Theres a reason they are called the fish of a thousand casts.
Id also try around the 890 bridge rip-rap. but you didnt here that from me...
