If they are in the shallows I use a flyrod and use a varity of foam bodied offerings. One of my goto's is a green foam spyder with white rubber legs. A fellow I used to fish with used a heavy Hopkins jig in deeper water. He did quite well that way.

Early ice out small ice jigs size 10 -12 tiny Ratso tails fished clean(no bait)I've caught some real hogs out of Pymy on 1/8 oz. blade baits as well as trolling with Hot and tots for Eyes in May and June.

On the ice;
I prefer a medium fathead hooked with a small treble under the dorsal hanging from a deadstick. (small splitshot about 12" up)

In the spring;
I like a medium fathead lip hooked with a gold aberdeen hook at the appropriate depth under a slip float. (again, with a small split shot)

In the summer and into fall (if I can find time to fish them in the fall);
I like to either troll hot & tots for them or work a Charlie Brewer Crappie Slider in the brush.
