Cant beat live minnows for crappies. But I will also troll for crappies with small crankbaits.

Agreed. Started using small blade baits and spoons more through the ice last year, and started hitting alot more fish. As for spring crappie fishing, I like small plastic jigs with fine tails that have a slight flutter, or marabou jigs tipped with minnows.

2" soft plastic. Tubes, grubs ect.... on a 1\8 or 1\16 jig head. Panfish Assassons are my favorite. Tons of colors available, just sayin.. hope thishelpa

Other than minnows or jigs under a float, smaller deep diving cranks(10-12ft) trolled have picked me up quite a few big fish. Especially when a mudline kills the action up shallow. I have one rapala and one from Norman lures that are absolutely killer. All my crappies over 14" have come on trolled cranks.
