hello all. nice forum here... stumbled across it trying to find some info about fishing below the shenango dam.

currently all 7 gates are open to 1 foot each. can you wade below the dam when all 7 gates are open? is it even worth going up there this time of year?

I waded below the dam Thursday morning. Just be careful and take your time. The water was just above my knees where I was standing and I didn't feel like wading deeper. Other guys were wading too. Got one walleye too small to keep and a few trout

ok. thanks for the info. i've been up there a handful of times but never with all 7 gates open.

they seem to have all 7 gates open most of the winter

how far below the dam were you if it was only up to your knees? anyone right up towards the dam?

It's pretty good now too. (water level)
Use caution still as you walk- deep holes now and then
Trout are "in" march 1st till end of march for a little spring fishing.....

i check here http://waterdata.usgs.gov/pa/nwis/uv/?site_no=03103500&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060,00010 for gage height, discharge and water temperature. and i call the recorded line to get the # of gates open. i always thought that 7 gates open was "unwadable" just below the dam (that's already been proven wrong here).

can anyone chime in on at what point the gage height and/or discharge becomes wadable/fishable below the dam? or maybe in terms of "x" # of gates open to "x" # of feet?

7 gates at 1 foot each is a nice flow. But really you should use the river height in sharpsville reading as an indicator. 3 gates at 2 feet can put out more water than 7 @ 1.

3.5 is a nice discharge to wade, maybe a little quick, but there are lots of shallow "bars" throughout the river. If ur up to your waist move up or downstream and you will quickly find shallower water. ( no need to be intimidated by this water, but do respect it)
