Pachuckles
Guess I'll have to start picking my own.
Kids don't sell them any more.
Bait shops are few and far between.....
and those that do want $2/$3 a dozen..WOW!!

What's your secret for keeping nightcrawlers?
Other than keeping them cool:
Do you use a commercial bedding, leaves, dirt, what??
Do you feed them?
How many in a 20 gal. wash tub?

Thanks for your help.

we keep them all year in a styrofoam container about 20x20 with a snap on lid I got from a grocery store. think grapes came in it . anyway get buss bedding and sprinkle on worm food every few weeks. just keep it in your basement no problems. all this plus the nitecrawlers are at walmart or any bait shop. I am seeing nitecrawlers in the yard since the warm weather started

Moist leaves also work well for bedding.  Once the bedding starts to turn to "soil" which is actually crawler castings or poop, it's time to change the bedding.  BTW those castings are great for fertilizer.

I always used shredded newspaper for bedding and a breadcrumbs for food.

Don't waste your time. Buy them or catch them in the yard and keep them in the refrig. until you need them. Dad and me, used to keep them in the basement in an old wash tub. We drilled small holes in the bottom for drainage. I don't know how this always happened, but water would get into it and drown the worms. The soil literally turned into mud time and time again. We had to constantly change the soil. We started to use the soil that came in the bags and it made it easier to change the soil, but it got a little costly. Let me tell you too, the dead ones really reeked. We finally got success when we dugged up a hole outside and planted the tub in the ground, and we kept it covered up. We tried different food and it did ok. The only problem we had with doing this, the neighborhood kids used to steal them during the night.

talking about nite crawlers , few years back i owned
a sporting goods & bait store in the downtown area of
new castle, i bought my bait then from akron bait and
the nite crawlers came in flats.
at one time 2 flats of them whent bad and i mean rank
( nothing smells worse) , i didn't know how to dispose
of them being down town but then had a idea.
i put them in a large paper bag , and opened the tailgate
of my bronko then layed them on it in the open.
needless to say whithin minutes they were gone,
could you imagine the the theives when they opened
the bag thinking they they had a easy steal.
