I have a pair of the suspended types. Bass tournaments require a life vest anytime the combustion engine is on so rather than putting on and taking off I just wear the suspender type now. I can and do fish 8hr tournies with them on and don't even remember they're on. I got mine off my great uncle so I didn't have to buy them, plus they're camo so I can wear it when I'm out in the kayak come hunting season with the new rule.

Buy a bigger boat. This law is for 16footers or less....

And all kayaks and canoes no matter the size.

Saw 3 boat loads of amish on Sparty pond last night and not a PFD in sight.
And we all know they wouldn't break the law.

In December, a buddy and I were about to put a 12 footer into Tamarack when a PFBC officer came down to b.s. with us and made sure we knew that "by law you both must have a life-jacket on at all times since your boat is under 16 foot". Technically, the law wasn't in effect I guess, but he pretended it was. O well, you can't blame him.
