I guess it depends on where at in French Creek.  Almost all of the fishing I do in the French is in Seagertown.  At most places the water is not very deep, even in canoes you must get out and wade past many spots.  I have only caught ugly little bullheads (I think) there.  In Cochranton, however, people run powered boats up and down the creek, and I have seen pictures of bigger cats (both channels & flats) from that section.

That's interesting I heard there was no catfish at all. How have you been doing fishing French this year? I live in Venango and fish French quite a bit

caught a 10+ channel on french in venango 2 ssummers ago ... and we make a few trip a summer to a certain location in franklin and get a couple a night ... so i guess it just depends where you go

So there's flatheads in there too not just channels?

If the alleghany has flat heads, channels then there isnt any reason why french would not. What the population density is would only be speculation

I've never heard of anybody catching Flatheads around Oil City and Franklin in the river...I could be wrong..but I think the flatties are below the locks and dams on the Allegheny
