Charlie:
I ordered 2 pair of the gloves and hope the come in time for next weeks steel trip.. Couldn't believe the low cost and from your experience I think they will serve well..
For years and years I used the rag wool fingerless but they just don't make them like they used too as well as still dealing with frozen finger tips (I'm just not as hardy as I once was)..

Next up I researched the Columbia hat..
Who the heck cares how ridiculous one might think it looks.. I for one am not about fashion..  Just look at me in my not so afraid to pose pic's wearing my dumb azz warm as heck hat..
It's super warm , was cheap as heck but gets wet.. Not good..
I'm going to go along the same line hat wise but looking to water proof outer shell.. I'm just a tad shell shocked at the columbia price tag.. Their colors are kinda out there as well, except for the Ebony blue.. Wouldn't it be neat however seeing double trouble in our future pic's.. LOL Maybe..

Anyway,
Head, hands and base layer are covered..
Next layer for me is MICRO Fleece bottoms..
Great stuff, way better then the original loose fleece..
400gram micro fleece wader liner pants ROCK..

P.S.
Note the poly under base layer w/ micro fleece zip up under the (un zipped) wading gortex jacket..

Gortex is great but it don't breath.. You must allow moisture to escape..

Yeah, despite the claims, my Gore-Tex stuff makes me sweat.  I hate wearing stuff that pulls over and I can't open up with zippers or buttons.
I have expedition grade micro-fleece pants from EMS. My legs are NEVER cold. Feet a little....Nancy also bought me fleece liner  socks that are soft, warm and supposedly the ultimate in wicking away moisture. Same company as the glomitts.

Clint:
I ordered a Med from the link you posted..
I have short fingers and while work supplies me with winter work gloves, it seems that China thinks us Americans are all large..

Clint,  you and I are about the same size, I got a Medium, and they are just a hair tight, but I like them that way- they don't flop around when I'm working or casting.

fleece fingerless gloves, and when it gets real cold i take one of the toe warmers with the stickum on the back and put it on my wrists (underside), its amazing how warm that keeps your hands
base layer, normal is just the black silk like stuff that is wicking, but for the really cold days i have a fleece union suit i got from cabelas that keeps it toasty
for the feet, bigger boots and a wicking undersock layer rather than bulky socks that make the boots fit tight and cut off blood flow
head gear, fleece caps that cover the ears, if it gets real cold the mad bomber style fleece, and if its really bad a neopreane face mask....works way better than the old bandanna
stay warm
oh yea, the flask full of whiskey doesn't really help, but it feels good

good thread

well I just walked home to a nice package.. The glove mitts came and I like what I see so far.. Granted they are not high super american made quality but they have all the right features for what I'm looking for at that price.. The mitten part folds nice into handwarmer pocket to keep it secure instead of a cheap velcro that never holds the flap..
The palms have a stitched grip material that is nice..

I ordered and received a med size that fits me great.. My only suggestion for a big hands guy, order what your real size is as thats the way they seem to run..
Thanks Charlie for the recommendation..
