The waterline states that they will raise the water to 285 from 8 pm tomorrow until 11.58 pm.I guess they are trying to flush some of the dead ones down and get some females into the hatchery,or they enjoy teasing us

Yup PA... id imagine theres finally females in line within hatchery vicinity... last time i looked it was almost only males in the hatchery....

For steelhead...bring on the snow so everyone stays home and the river's less packed!!! Im hoping we get some lake effect blasts in late october/early november as it used to be common...forget about the rain dance...bring on the snow chant!!! Lol

My friend again saw the netting up at Orwell brook yesterday for at least 6 hours. I have seen it up twice last week.   Unless they are stocking, they may be trying to net females there.  That would really explain why on last Wednesday we  had a good day, but only caught  one female.

Funny I had the same discussion and my stupid worthless opinion with Charlie without reading any Internet thread on the subject before now. I only seen the flow data as I look every day for water I fish.

Seems the closing of lfz did not supply necessary hatchery fish and the contingency plan is in place.

Maybe this will also teach us in the future, maybe closing lfz worked no better now then in 07 , maybe other options will work , maybe I know nothing about the sr and fishery..
No matter what , if we ever stop learning , we are stone cold dead.

Makes you wonder what would work then???? It seems as if males havent had any problem making it up... makes one wonder if there is some kind of biological indifference in hatchery males vs. Hatchery females juvenille survival rate.... it seems as if plenty of wild females made it and are spawning or already spawned.... tons of hatchery males are stacked in the hatchery???? What gives??? Id love to know the answer myself...and yes, once you stop learning there is no point to it ;)

DEC info line says they started taking eggs in the hatchery this week, so they must have had a few henfish.  Maybe the better solution for insuring adequate fish for egg taking is to close Trout and Orwell when the flows are this low.  I know this will p off some store owners and barbarians, but it makes sense if that is where DEC  is going to get ripe hens.

Last week driving by TB and Orwell I find it hard to believe a fish could make it upo that little of water, but the things we do for the nookie.

While taking a break last Friday at the lodge a group from Joisy came in all happy that they limited out,I asked them where they were "fishing" and they said Trout Brook,I said at the mouth or in the river at that area and they informed me "no in the brook",I said is there any water there and they said yes.Later as I left for home I went past Trout Brook and it was a trickle. Why anyone would drive from Joisy and spend money on lodging, gas, tackle, etc. to snag fish in a trickle is beyond me,fing idiots are born every minute.

you assume they were snagging them
if it was that low they may have just been netting them :)
