Just wondering in the Zones.  Articulated fly,  top part being a bead lower part being lets say a stony fly.  It technically would be one fly.   Just wondering

One hook, it's legal. I use them.  I tie the rear nymph  on stainless wire .

Looking at the regs, if the bead is on the shank, shoudl be legal.  If it is on the line, not legal in the fly zones.  Bead becomes unweighted beadhead!  But what is this thing with beads, why not just a yarn ball or small glo bug?

well yes a bead not attached in some way to the hook without material is not legal in the fly zones.
I will say this.. They are a cheap easy high, they do work when you fish them be it correct in the fly zone or other areas .. Sometimes better then some yarn or glo bug material.. Why ? I don't know why.. Do you need them away from the hook ? Nope, not really..

Was thinking something like this.  It's articulated so some movement.  Maybe the bead a size smaller.   I suck at tying yarn balls.  I do have some pegged to a hook with a tiny little veil over it too.

Clint thanks for the pic..
Id say fish it.. Fish it and it will catch fish..
Intent, intent is what its about to me.. Regs are for those with bad intent..
Too many regs spoil the fun for those trying to fool the fish instead of the fishers.

I agree whole heartedly, Tuna, but a few years back on Irondequoit Creek, I was fishing to a fish I could see in one of the riffs of the falls stretch, and I had a warden come over and tell me he thought i was trying to lift the fish.  I told him that I was fishing to the only visible fish around as opposed to walking around and fishing the water to either invisible or non existent fish, and that if I was trying to lift the fish, I would have been done 20 minutes earlier.  He left me alone after that, but I think they would as readily write you or me for a misplaced bead as some heavy weight C+Der repeatedly lifting and releasing in the Fly Zone.  No beef with the ECO's either, it is a tough job, there are always little grey areas, and they can certainly have their hands full on tribs like the Genesee where they get no support from the judges, and they need to speak Russian and Spanish to communicate with the "anglers."

That Genesee sounds like a place that I will continue to avoid. In fact it sounds quite a bit like Allentown Pa minus the Russians.

I had a great time on the Little Lehigh in Allentown once.  The Genesee is in an urban center, low income area, and it gets a lot of " subsistence" types.  I tend to only go when there is a lot of other activity and people around.  It can be good water, but it'll never be wilderness!
