Hey guy.  I recently found an Allegheny River guide online.  He goes by the name of Red Childress.  I am thinking about paying for his charter in November.  Has anybody worked with him before or heard anything?  Thanks guys.

Depends on what you are fishing for.....

Red is known for musky on the Allegheny as far as I know.

I'd highly recommend Jeff Knapp (www.keystoneconnection.com) for smallmouth, walleye, and musky.

I agree with ready2fish, Jeff Knapp is one of the best fisherman in our area.  I went to school with his son and have know the family for a number of years. He's a great smallmouth guide for the allegheny river. Ive never fished with Red but weve done quite a bit of outdoor shows with him and he's a stand up guy.  Either one will have you catching fish.

Thanks guy.  I was looking at Jeff's page and it seems like he is a big time smallie specialist.  Living in Erie, I catch a lot of smallies and in my opinion $300 for smallmouth would be wasteful.  I am actually looking for a guide for northerns and/or muskie.  Thoughts?

Red will be more geared toward musky. I'd give him a call and talk to him.
If I were targeting toothy fish, I'd wait until October, maybe even early November. I catch far more in that time frame, and I'm not even targeting them.

Your best bet for musky hands down would be Todd Young, from Muddy Creek Fishing Guides.  I booked him for a day on Chautauqua, top notch all the way, great guy to be in the boat with, I learned a ton on my trip. We boated 2 out of 5 fish that hit in musky fishing thats a good day.

There are a few guys guiding on Chautauqua for musky, he is the only one who has WON the PMTT (prof musky tourney trail, biggest tournament trail in the country for musky) which should speak volumes of his ability to put people on fish.  Many guides will say they fished in tournaments, heck any one can do that if you pay the entry fee, the difference is he and his partner came in first place at the end of all the tournaments. No one locally can say that, only a handful in the US can say that

He has a website so goggle his name.

I will say this stay far far away from the one guide named Larry Jones, of Mostly Muskie Charters. He is a bag of hot air, will say anything to get your money and does not produce results. He is bad news, I know personally, I was greatly disappointed with his "business" after talking to several others it seems to be the consensus among the musky fishing community.

My vote would be for Todd Young

I'd go with Red. And ya, I would def wait until mid October through even January to book it. The later in the year you go ,the better the chance of hooking into a giant.
