Well the morning update is we made it through the night.  The dogs didn't like the wind much.  Very little rain last night.  The wind has went down considerably.

In Rochester, we got  1.1" for the last 24 hours and just over 2" since it started on Saturday.  We are predicted to get another inch or so, but they have downgraded the peak flow prediction for the Genesee to only about 5000 cfs.  Winds were ~40-50mph sustained with higher gusts  last night are sustained around 25-30 now.  This may have opened up some barrier bars on smaller tribs.  We've got about 20,000 folks without power.  And we were lucky, it tracked south through Pa into Ohio and W Va. I see that the power Co. realized they don't need the storage and the flow dropped back to 400.

Lemme qualify this a bit at first-
I feel sorry and hope for the best for all that suffered from the storm.
I do NOT feel sorry at all for those who have chosen to build near commonly flooded waterways or other areas regularly adversely affected by sloppy weather.
They featured a guy with the common sense of a gnat yesterday on the news who had just rebuilt his Beach house after the last storm and went on to feature pictures  boats that had not been removed from seaside marinas. Ya get what ya ask for.
Where the storm  hit landfall there were undoubtedly regular folks who had bad things happen and to them my heartfelt wishes for quick recovery.
Here in Central Ct they told us to be ready for the 'storm of our lifetime' a 300 year event that was gonna last days.
The stores had a field day and sold out of anything remotely resembling emergency foods and equipment. The STORM was little different than a Summer  Thunderstorm and lasted only a few hours- We maintained electricity throughout --WAYYYY too much hype from the weather guys who never admit the got it wrong.
Its no wonder folks who may actually be in danger refuse to evacuate when told to. Too many years of hearing them crying Wolf.

Here in the Lehigh Valley of Penna. we got about 2" and wind ,with some gusts over 50 mph,but I would n't call it "epic".Our power went out for a very short time about six times during the night but that was it.I see one tree down on my property. Now I'm considering going up for a couple days, what to do? What to do?

How far is it from southern NJ to Central Connecticut, about 150 miles?  They started calling this one when it was south of Jamaica, and they were pretty accuate, originally calling for landfall in the Delmarva, and it actually hit South NJ.  If it had stayed out to sea another 2 or 3 hours it could have been Connecticut, and then it would probably have torn right through Central New York.  I don't think anyone putting up with life in Manhatten today is seeing this as a bad weather call, they got creamed.  In my area there were still 20000 people without power this AM, Irondequouit Creek peaked out at about 1200 cfs (it was 100 on Sunday, 40 last week, and flood stage is around 900).  Or maybe they should not have issued the warnings, and wherever they got hit , so be it, like the Schoharie last year.  I think the weathermen did a pretty fine job here, and the wonder is that so few people were killed and injured considering the magnitude of the event where it did hit.

Put the news on for a bit this afternoon- how in Hades do people living only a few feet above sea level near the shore or a large waterway think they deserve so much sympathy when the inevitable occurs.
How often do the Subways and Tunnels in Ny City have to get flooded before it becomes a non news event. Gee the N J Boardwalk got ripped up--again. WOW that hasnt happened for 40 or 50 years -what an unexpected complete sooprize. I'm gonna puke.
Reminds me of those POOR folks along the  Mighty Mississippi river who get flooded out every 10 years or so and stand there and cry for the cameras---again.
Hey- I kinda recall hearing its the FEDERAL GOVT who guarantees the insurance on many of those in flood areas- that means you and I are paying the freight for those idiots-again.
New Law proposal- once flooded - NOT allowed to rebuild- tear it DOWN-that includes Wall Street-GREAT place for the worlds Financial Hub-water on the floor of the Stock Mkt--again-ohhh but "it was deeper this time" (real statement on TV) lotsa big thinkers planned that  lol.
Aside from the financial issues how many pubic servants gotta take a chance and go out to save those same idiots in those same places time after time ??
Wanna buy a lot in Downtown Pulaski- hasnt flooded for 2 years now.
To those regular folks who had bad stuff happen that isnt the norm- hope all turns out well.

Man.. The Schoharie valley was devastated in Irene.. I mean total devastation from folks that had no clue.. I pass through there in route to deer camp in Oneonta and it's still heart breaking.. Not far from home..
I agree , warning well in advance is always a good thing.. Being spared is even better..
Good will to those in need...

The only hardship Sandy brought me was a little labor for free fuel..
I'll take that any day..

After 5 loads..
