Well, hit dsr for the last 45 minutes they were open...picked away at a few runs in pursuit of a dime bright... finally took a drift in a soft water seem with a slate drop off between a collaboration of pockets and first cast bobber down on an orange egg sac!!! An easy 10 # male as chrome as chrome could be... ended up chasing the thing about 100 yards through some nasty water where three anglers who were packing in offered to net the fish for me... i steered the beast in a few times until the gentleman could finally get a good dip... just when i thought it was in the bag the fish literally leaped out of the net!! Granted it was one of those shallow catch and release rubber nets, but it was still pretty frikkin nuts to see!!! The bastard ended up bolting again and snapping my eight pound test!!!! Thats steelhead fishing for ya! !! LOL!!! It was quite a pleasure to get some late day action though... im quite surprised at the crowds for a wednesday... cars in all parking lots and people locked in key spots in town area that i wouldve liked to get a last cast in before dark

Yeah, I have lost a few this year right at the net or if I would have had a net man could have gotten a pic.   The thrill is in the take and in the fight so it really doesn't bother me alot, would have thrown them back anyway.

Steelhead have to be one of the hardest fish there is to net. They seem genetically programmed to know how to avoid them. Close enough for a good battle story, Dime. I kept searching for a good wading net and have found one with a rubber bag, a decent hoop, fits on my back and seems to have the depth to put a 30" fish in without it immediately flopping out. So far, one in the 25" range went in.  Maybe I'll get to exercise it this weekend.   Pretty nice to be able to hit the river like that after work.   Keep after them bright ones!

Clint youre so right... its the pursuit and confrontation that is the best part of it... landing is the bonus especially when they are lake fresh...

Charlie, ive never been a net type of guy which probably explains why ive yet to to put an 18 +'er on the bank :)
Looking back on this afternoon i almost wish the net offer wasnt there as i felt obligated somehow or another to rush the fish a little bit... always a big mistake in my book... many say these fish will die if you play them too much but i think theres a pretty broad line in that case as ive fought sharks in high 60's water temps and strung them through the gills in a pocket for hours to find them full of life at the end of the day... its all in release and care for the most part. Good luck with your net, hopefully you'll be netting one for me sometime soon with it... lets hope its not a monster though!!! LOL

Good fish tales DB.. Get your use outta that darn pass !! Plenty fish there and your time is valuable.. Thats where Id like to spend my fall days too..
 
As far as nets:
 Solo I don't really have a purpose for one.. And for salmon I think I convinced my fellow fishers that me carrying a net will come at a cost.. lol
Steelhead I'll net all I can for friends :)
Some (most) times when solo it's no net for me..
 
Now I am also a net fan..
If you are fishing with others, an A+ in my book..  Being able to subdue the fish much quicker and getting a great photo is essential with a net..
I don't like beaching a flopping fish then trying to forcibly subdue them, unhook and try to pick them up to snap a shot.. Far too much stress as I see..
 
Yes I l do like good PHOTO memories of a great fish.. They look awesome on my wall and maybe on others too..
 
 

HT, you've done some great Derek Jeter moves with the net for me.  I normally wouldn't alone,  except in a few of my favorite places to fish that are all trees and high  banks.  Net or nothing in there.  Nancy's been good at getting them, but when she ain't there,  I've tried to get the scoop on them.   I know if I'm netting a fish for a stranger or a friend for that matter, I make sure to tell them I have all day and take all the time you need to get the fish under control. I let the fish dictate when it's ready for the net. I HATE!!!!!!!! missing someone's fish.  Them fish Dime's been getting blind you so much you can't see to get them in the net.

What are you going to do with that net when you get a 39 incher?  I saw one in the air Tuesday that was (not on my line) over 20 lbs, huge dark male!  The guy that had it on never got to worry about the size of the net, though, the jump ended that fish's experience of a Fin Nor and 20 lb. immediately.  There are some real monsters in the river this year!

i usually leave the net behind, but if i'm fishin my bear rock i always take it because there is no place to beach one....shear rock face just does not work for sliding one up to deal with it
