Anyone have a recommend on a fly box.  I have a few cheaper ones, but they don't hold the flies well and seem a little messy as it is just foam on the inside.  Smaller ones to fit in vest pocket and/ or medium ones to go in the backpack.   Christmas is coming...........

I use Orvis ones I like them because they are flexible. They come in 3 sizes which will pretty much accommodate any pocket in a vest and the price is right at I believe 12 you can get them at Whitakers. They make them with one ripple side and with 2 ripples depending on your preference. It nice when you are picking something up that your not getting a plastic box in the ribs.

Tuna that what I have been looking for.  The slots keep them organized better.  Ugly I know what you are saying my small box is a hard one.  Going up to town today and I will check out Whitakers and the others.

I've got more than I can count, due to flyfishing  for a lot of different species. I find some are better for small patterns, others for streamers. Cliff boxes are one of the better for both,  slotted foam like the C&F.  I have a dozen  of the Orvis/Morrel foam covered with fabric boxes like UG mentioned.  I just filled one this week with patterns for Nov. The mountain  trout flies that filled it before went in a tin.   For the money, they probably are some of the best.  You can buy 3 or 4 for the price of a C&F, or other fancier boxes.  I like cheaper for the SR, they get abused, hold lots of simple cheap flies (egg patterns)  and you have them out often because of fussy steel/  snags/snap offs/ big fish teeth. They also  are crush proof, float and are easy to handle with gloves on in the cold.
Boxes are a lot like rods- depends on preference.

I think the thing I want to try is the slotted foam.  My box is quite messy.  I also want to try to get into separate boxes for stones, eggs, Estaz ect  for my pack and then with one small box with a few go to for the vest

Slotted foam all the way for wets, sucker spawn or salmon flies. Don't matter the brand. I happened to get 2 c&f med for under 30,00 together . Good boxes and I like them.
As for estaz or egg flies I'd suggest just using small compartment cheap box.
They hold lots more eggs for the space.

Hope it helps, back to deer watch
