Andy-
Late Oct and November are generally two of my favored fishing times. Got busted out of those trips myself this year but am surprised at the very many negative River reports from good fisherman for several weeks now.
Has it been generally slower this late season ??
Didnt hear very much bout Sharks on the late side or even Hos both of which usually hit decently and are around in those times with the Steel. There are Nov days in the past where all three are around in some places - jut not hearing those stories at all.
Almost kinda sounding like Steel days of old here.
NOT counting boat trips that traditionally get to far more water than a walker and with Capts that generally know where the fish are holding from day to day. Not knocking them in way way here- its just different fishing.
Hoping for a few days in a week or so myself- good fishing or not- just fishing.

yep, glad I bought the neos when my other boots were in the shop.  I like Nov and Dec my self.   I can take some cold but when it gets below 15 I would rather go out on the ice or stay home.
Headed out tomorrow and maybe Friday.   We will see if I can get my lazy azz out of bed for an am trip.

Well, hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday... great to hear and see everyones outdoor adventure reports!!!

Been following the weather and it seems as if some small lake effect is gonna come through in the next few days with some decent accumulation tonight and smaller accumulations the next few days... then COLD... but a warming trend in early next week... depending on how much snow tug hill gets we could have a high water december!!! Its been a while but if it happens it could set us up for some excellent winter flows/fishing...tight lines guys!!!

Trev i missed this one... id say its been a typical late season but when its been ON its been like DONKEY KONG!!! problems we've faced are below average flows and above average fishing pressure... i myself have opted out from fishing certain areas at very hot times due to the crowds... a big concern of mine is the absence of wild coho in common spawn/natal areas...(pizz trickles) hahahaha.... ive seen absolutely zero to date and that concerns me as ive looked on daily basis at times to see nothing but trickles that these magnificent fish cant quite navigate... in my efforts to observe, i was quite surprised to see an ample amount of tiny fry bolting around in the little pools... it makes one wonder... baby steelhead??? I did witness successful spawn beds in these waters i am referring to in early spring of last year... who knows???? Luckily there still is chance of some winter spawning cohoes to fill in the gaps with the potential of some good run off coming in the next few weeks...

nice to hear from ya DB, almost thought you got lost for awhile.. lol

I heard (read) that a few thousand juvi steelhead were released into the river just over a month ago.. Maybe thats them ?
Thinking they (dec) is looking to have them exit to the lake this spring..

Well 12 hrs on the stone pile was brutal last night and now time to cut some venison , drink some beers , fire up the grill and what ever else ensues..
Have a great day everyone..

Know what ya mean Andy- many of my late favored HO bedding area have been high and dry. Would think they would still be in though -just someplace else.
Saw them in some numbers early on this year spawning during that big Shark run- was a bit surprised at that-think the numbers of Sharks actually may have caused the Hos to have a better chance early since the Sharks  were being so targeted. Actually saw guys leaving them  alone while Chuckin for the Sharks.
Havent been around for the past several weeks to fish but remain surprised at the low reporting.

Well I'm doing all those getting ready for winter chores, cleaning out rain gutters, clearing debris from driveway, blowing leaves, etc. trying to keep my sanity until I wet a line again. Was going to go west to the Erie tribs but the streams are very low, they need lots of rain/snow soon or that fall season is going to be a bust.Might come up to SR instead but these reports are not encouraging.Whatever I decide it won't happen for a week or two,got too much to take care of after the holiday.Deer season, rifle, starts tomorrow around here and that is a pain as some of these people go ape to shoot a deer and could care less if they're in a safety zone or on private property, police phone # will be on speed dial just in case.

Lost but always found tuna!!! Lol

Dont think these guys i was seeing were those excess stocks... the water im referring to is unstocked and i was seeing them from late september...these guys were twice the thickness of a toothpick and 3/4 the length of a toothpick... much smaller than the surplus juvies they stocked and far from the river... be safe on those gravel banks running those quarry monsters bud!!

So what do ya'll think??? 2500 cfs by next wednesday??? Hope so...prime makings for fresh "cold steel" ;)

since most estiments are that somewhere between 6-10 inches of snow holds the same amount of water as an inch of rain and I don't see any 70 degree days or rainfall in the forcast i would guess a slowish melt into a still lower than average res plus the ground isn't frozen or saturated and will be soak some i would guess not.

i claim my rightfull place as king of the run on sentence.

ps  if brookfield can't figure out to up the release to 750 as the melt happens in order to prevent 2500cfs down the road they are idiots.
while that should be enough to draw new fish the dropping water temp due to 33 degree snow melt could well shrink the amount.
