Well there was a meeting the other night on the possible sale of the school.   There were quite a few ignorant arguments on why the bid should be turned down and if the buyer would "fit" the community.
Lets make a little game of the possible bidder of the property.
A: Comfort Suits  plans on buying it and converting it to a hotel
B:  DSR  wants to buy it to make a Lodge and another pay to fish spot
c:  Biospherix   a company based in Lacona NY wants to buy it to expend their production abilities
D:  Oneida Indian Reservation wants to buy it to make a high dollar hunting and fishing retreat.
 
I will reveal all later.

I'll opt for the Indians- and pay to play too with the river frontage - How much land they gonna buy or lease for hunting ??? Taxes ???

Well based on most folks I know from altmar (not fisherman)... they don't want much to change in their town,so i could see most locals being opposed to any of the four candidates... I am going to guess comfort Suites... looking forward to the actual answer clint... wish I knew about the meeting as I would have loved to sit in and listen

Imho, I would rather see something going there that has nothing to do with the fishing or the fishing economy. There is enough drama and turf wars up there as it is. All the complaining is getting pretty old as it is.... would hate to have a whole new pot of hot mess get stirred up.... that's the last thing that fishery needs

Hard as it is to imagine a company expanding actual mfg.ing  in upstate NY, I'll put on the rose colored glasses and hope it's the biomedical company.  Like Dime, I hope it's a not a mess in the making.

There are NYSDEC Easements or Public Fishing Rights continuously from Altmar to Pineville on the Right bank (the convention is looking downstream).  I hardly think anyone is going to open any kind of exclusive and private fishing spot up there.  I vote for the biomed, they can adapt the building to their needs without having to meet tons of codes, and for anything where you rent a room, there are a lot of codes, so cost to renovate or convert could be prohibitive.

I'm going with the Oneida casino/hotel where after they take most of your money you may go pay to fish? Trying to think outside the box.
 

I say Biomed, that could help out the town by creating some jobs for the locals as well as boost the area gas station/food mart (little luckeys). Let alone how cool would that be to go out back and hook salmon/steelhead on your lunch break if you worked there?
