Got up and fished for a few hours today.   Day started out nice but as the AM went on the wind picked up although it was mid 30's it was pretty cold.   At 900 I chose to stay up high.  Walked around  Ellis for a bit and fished a few spots with no luck.   There were only 2 cars in the lot including mine.   Saw a few boats too, but no fish on.     Went up into town to the CP and there were only 8 folks including me from the tail to the wire on both sides.  As soon as I get there I net a fish for a guy and think hey this could be good.    Fishing was slow , but if you worked hard enough you could get a hook up every now and then.  In about 3 hours there everyone hooked up at least once,  a few had multiples.  In talking the color of the day was purple and everyone shared info.    All fish were holding fairly close to shore in the seams and the edges of the fast water.   I ended up going 0 for 2 with one quick hook up and one I fought for a bit, both on purple eggs.   The spot I was fishing had a nice snag out front  (I think it is a  small tree) and I ended up pulling at least 6 or 7  flies out of it including what looked to be one of mine from about a month ago..   I lost about the same, but it is a good spot so I deal with it.

Did I mention the water is fooking cold and I was glad I had a spot where I could stand out of it.   There were alot of breaks taken by those standing in the water.
Probably no fishing for a bit due to the crappy weather coming.   Looks like some pretty cold temps coming up next week so I guess winter is here.  Hope for some ice soon as we ate the last bag of walleye earlier this week.

Happy holidays to all and if you are out stay safe, stay warm and keep them tight lines.

Thanks for the report Clint.Guess it's time to bring out the heavy neos with the insulated boot foot, can stand in the water for hours with them on.Yes the cold and snow is coming to Pulaski and out west where I'll be over the holidays, hope it is n't too snowy as that will keep me indoors because of the driving on the slick roads,no fish is worth getting killed for!
Happy Holidays to everyone out there!!

Yes Jack, even though I have lived here in the snowbelt and am used to driving in what most folks would consider a white out it is just not worth it.     I also cut the chasing of fish and wading in the winter as a simple slip and fall especially if you are away from the car can be deadly.   I have been contemplating yet another purchase of a boot foot wader.   My legs do not get cold just the feet.  Lots of room for xtra socks and an air cushion in the boot foot.

Be careful fishing alone in the cold weather. I go to many secluded places fishing and my wife bought me a "spot" GPS satellite messenger 911 device. its about 99.00 plus a subscription of about 140.00 per year that includes 10,000.00 to pay for rescue if needed. The device is waterproof and floats. When 911 is activated it updates your position every 5 minutes so they can see if you are on the move or not.  You can also send OK messages to 10 emails you list on a website from home. Shows your location on a map within 20 feet.

Thanks Clint and to all the others that post on this forum.  I have been reading now for several years, but I can't remember posting before.  I am making my second trip to the SR right after Christmas and the information that everyone is posting is very helpful.  I fly fish exclusively and will leave my report when I return on Jan 2nd.

I'm also going to try and do some CC skiing and see that "snow showers" are in the extended forecast for the foreseeable future.  Is there any snow on the ground right now?
Happy Holidays!

Yuk- Get out the Putor and look up x Country in Osceola up on Tug hill past the Res.
Great place there. Rentals and many groomed trails.
You may still see Salmon Hills x country on the putor but its actually gone private and is closed.
That Tug hill area in Osceola area gets much more snow than the river area.  My wife and grand kids go there regularly and I fish. Bout a half hour from SR.
When I could still  x country I found Osceola  to be very enjoyable and at the same time offers some demanding choices as well.
