Went up to the LFZ today.   I only had a few hours to fish.   Fished from around 8 till noon. Wasn't especially packed , but there were people there.    I was unable to get into a "prime" spot, but managed  6  hook up 2 were fighters and the 0ther 4 were head shakes and gone.        Fishing was in spurts.   45 minuteswith noby gettin' nothin' and then a mess of people hookin' up.  Got 4 of the hits on Charlie's little green bean fly he showed us last year.  2 on black stones.
 
Here  is my morning rant.  When I got there there were 2  guys in a good spot.   I set up down from them.   I assumed they were together, but they were not.   About   1000 4 other people get there, 2 guys and 2 gals.   They were  friends in the same group as one of the guys.  It was an older gentlemen and they pushed this poor guy out.  Telling him he could fish in HIS spot, but fishing close and stepping in his spot when he   changed flies ect.  One  girl was the worse of the whole bunch.   Hey it's the guys right to say something , but he did not  I think mainly because it was a lady  .  Saw him bight his tongue a few times.  
Question of the day.......
How would you feel if someone hooked up and just let the fish sit in front of you for lets say , 15 minutes.   Not really putting any good wood into it just letting it sit there and "tire out"

Really tees me off when its obviously foul hooked and they say they have to get their fly back.
 
 

I've heard people say " you dont own the river and I have as much right to fish here as you do". I say " you are correct go ahead. I also have the right to throw as many rocks in the river as I want to." I like that or " go ahead and fish. You better be able to land him where you are because I am not pulliing my line in if the fish comes my way". Angler courtesy goes both ways.....WF

 Its a rar day to fish LFZ at any time of yewar without somebody who thinks the whole place is theris alone.

Another great report, Clint. Well told. More idiots, and NO IT'S  NOT RIGHT TO LEAVE A FISH SIT STILL FOR 15 MIN.   I don't know if I can take  watching  the maroons sit on the corner and yank fish because they're piled there and think they're EXPERTS. Oh well, it's the LFZ. Grin and bear it. Absotively glad you hooked up. 

It is the LFZ and it comes with the territory.   Plenty of river to fish and I choose to go there, especially when I can only fish a few hours or so.   Just smile and nod.   Would not have taken being push out of my spot like that guy did though.    

 Lot's of new fair weather anglers out on Sat. (Good for the local economy!)
We were all new once :) Thats how I usually look at it.
On a funny note:
Some of us have a term of endearment for anglers who just stand there with a fish on below them for a long time, in a good spot with other anglers being polite and giving that angler room, unable to fish as there line is in front of them.
We jokingly call them "a poser". Like they are posing for a picture, instead of following there fish and trying to stay even with it.
Or, like you said, put the wood to it.
Getting it in fast'r and not tieing up the fishing for everyone else.
I always suggest to my guest's to stay even or below there fish. (Tires fast'r) Listen to the fish and it will tell you what to do.
If all the anglers in a specific spot can not follow there fish due to deep water, then we all simply take a lil break. Everyone works together.
Once in a blue moon Ill suggest "politely" getting even with it. Better for the fish, better for the angler, for many reasons. Plus, everyone can fish.
I always get a thank you in return.
Realistically, I find that if you dont know this and have never had it explained to you, then you simply dont know.
Sounds like the guy could - should have given her the above tips, then everyone would have been happier, especially the fish.
We were all new once. :) and I probably was a poser then too. Didnt know any better until it was explained to me. :)

On a positive note, maybe everyone's post on here will help educate others who are new to this amazing fishery!

AH, but it was me that she played the fish in front of, and she had the whole wall of the Church pool to play it in as we were up at the end.   After a bit I politely told her to put some wood to it and walk backwards and the fish came right in ,  it was a beauty too.  The fish was basically just sitting in the current.  Guy's  with her were yelling let it tire don't put pressure on it or it will run.      I am all for playing  a fish and don't mind waiting, but when I can clearly see a fish is ready to come in, it's time.  The next one she walked down on the other side of me.   

Lactic acid build-up will occur even when the fish is resting on the line.  Letting a fish hang inthe current for a long period of time will do more damage than playing it fast and hard, tiring it out, bringing it to hand for the seemingly mandatory cell phone snap, and then revival and release.  But Randy is correct, with all the national exposure, there are a lot of new fishers and to someone who has a good year if they get a couple 16" fish on inland waters, even a little 22"  looks like a monster.  Hopefully, more newbies will talk to tackle shop folks or do a little pre-reading and pick up some of this, but even Morgan Lyle has a lot of misconceptions working in his article in the Dec 28 New York Outdoor News.  Just to pick up on one, I swing flies and fish upstream nymph style, sometimes in the same drift, only use my Spey rod when the run is monster, like the Snag, so often swing with a one hander, and have never seen the styles as mutually exclusive.
