Now that the Genesee has finally come down to fishable levels for more than 2 days in  row, there is over an inch of mostly rain in the forecast for the next 24 hours.   That and the temps during the day should end western NY icefishing for 12-13, and push the Genesee river back into the brown and frown stage.  However, the smaller tribs may turn on like gangbusters.  This can be a tough time of year, a lot of good possibilities, and sometimes you can't get to any of them because the driving coniditons are so poor.  But if the forecast is correct, Saturday could be a good day to hit lesser tribs for fresh spawners.

I wonder about the Big G.
The putor says its gonna jump tommorrow but if that south-mid west storm hits down PA way it might lock everything up and give less runoff than they are thinking.
It was lower by 4 inches today and dropped another 4 while I was there.
My day in the barrel today.
A quick handshake and gone in about 3 hours.
It was just warming up when I left.
Two others there this morning pinning and 2 other pinners came just before I left.
Saw one guy that appeared to be playing a fish.

Not an ice goer myself or atleast not yet, but someof areas within the region still have 8+ inches in some spots... i would assume the lack of ice in other areas is due to the above average water table we've had through out the the entire winter. Although temps have been really cold at times, with the two brief thaws we've had water tables have held very strong. On the other hand, town of richland/ mexico/fernwood area are holding a 12-18 inch snow pack... altmar had 3-4 foot of packing snow over the weekend... cant imagine what the tug has. And its true pack this year... with the water tables so high and so much pack we may get some serious water sooner than later in all tribs. Lucky, i think youre right with smaller tribs. They probably will be dynamite before the real run off comes... then they will get blown out... last time i checked the forecast i saw day highs in 20's and nights in the tens and teens scattered about. Im real interested to see how the water situation turns out this spring...

I'm guessing Lucky was talking about tribs to the west of you Dime.
Around here half my yard is green today.
Not the snowpack melt to worry about.
Wintery mix called for here before turning to snow.
Could be 1-2 days of high dirty flow followed by a few dropping and clearing.

Two-bizzle... what a difference. Took a walk out back today. Thought there was onle 6-8 inches but was wrong... good 8-12 of pack with 4-6 of crunchy on top. Plowed out the camp over the weekend and ther was 3+ there. I imagine mid last week there was more before settling and packing took place. One of these days i gotta make it out to the genny... it is my favorite beer priced at $3.49 a six pack of tall boys... genny light that is ;)

Maybe they've been holding back while checking the powerhouse work out running lesser amounts thu it?
Looks like this old toad won't have to struggle around rock climbing the bank for a while.

Some pretty good sized, basketball, rock was falling on the west side yesterday during the thaw.

Was at Empire and Linear on the I, one male caught at Linear. Asian man, put it in his pack, I mentioned the one fish limit, and he maintained up and down that it is three, and he is keeping the fish for the eggs. I said have fun explaining what the book says to the Wardens.  I've paid my public education dues, but as of last night, I have a copy of the book in my truck.

Good luck with that Chuckles.
When the rules change to the 4 foot max between weight and hook I talked to a couple wardens at the lfz and told them they could write all the tickets their pens had ink for and they told me that wasn't the reg.
Went to the old F150 got the reg booklet and read it to them word for word and their response was they would have to check with their boss.
The idiots could have gone a long way towards cleaning that spithole up if they went at it with a tape measure and showed no mercy.
Plain and simple.
No proving intent.
More than 4 feet and you eat a ticket.
Tip your server we'll be here all week.
And the next.
Now straighten your act up or go back to Jersey, or PA or Ct or Vt or Ma or Rochester but you can't do that here and not pay the price.

PS looks like the G is just about back in shape.
