They launch behind hatchery. Been/ seen it before.
Yes I think the weekend & Monday UFZ opener will be zoo like in those areas.
Rest of river below Ellis should be normal..
I'd be looking near there for crowd control if that was me.
I'm hoping things settle back down by Monday afternoon , I'd like to revisit old times there and will be solo for a few days .
If not then my wheels will keep spinning in other directions.

Jack , hope you catch a tug but if you say ain't no fish there then ain't nobody going to catch one.
I'm going out on sport/ Hudson for day Friday . Some fishing and some campsite clean up.
When the big boys come ill let you know.. My boat ( not kayak or canoe) kinda sucks for comfort but my bro-in-laws goes here to NYC without issues and I have many friends :)

Clint :
This is your thread man and deserve all the kudos. You sparked my interest back in that game.
Seems your learning your drifts and presentation better & better.
Comfort zone is in .. Now work little by little around that move a bit here and there , watch what's happening on the bottom.
Check out the heads / tails , try some swings and off the wall big stuff.
Once things warm up ( I still see snow ) you'll see changes happen.
Don't be tippet/ leader shy.
8-10-12 # works with the right material.

Keep up the good vibes and having fun with fishing

Trev,    I may check it out Saturday to stay away from the crowds if I go.  I have LOTS of things to do around the house though.   Water temps are creeping up........

RJ,  I have a few places in mind if the water stays down and others if it goes up a bit.  That place is like crack though I know they are there and I keep going back to get a fix.  I got out the bigger stuff today, but did not use it.    My wife has been bugging me that she wants to try one and we eat ALOT of fish so................
I used the 5lb maxima today and had good results with it.   I also have some 8lb Frog hair that I use with the bigger stuff.

The few guys I talked to today,  there and in town,  said there is not much else going on elsewhere.

Hey- not worth its own thread--and not trying to hijack--lol
Anybody ever try -think its 'little salmon river' way up few miles beyond Redfield- likely later in the Spring into Summer??

Never tried it way up there, but one of the LSR branches runs right behind our farm, next to my house,  way too many beaver dams cut down on the brookies.  There is also a branch in Mexico that gets some salmon and steel

Above Redfield and the reservoir, you have the North Branch ansd the East Branch of the Salmon River.  The Little Salmon is the one that flows through Mexico and there is an impassable dam below Mexico.  Main SR, the East Branch has some beautiful trout water, Public lot on Ryan Rd, and some interesting tribs, Brook Trout up in the headwaters around Osceola, and a resident rainbow stream in Prince Brook, which comes in in the NYS land down around Ryan Rd.  North Branch is lower gradient, so a lot more silty bottomed long runs, but also some great tribs, Mill Stream comes in just above Redfield and is a fine Brook Trout stream with miles of Public Fishing rights, the Mad River is the main trib and comes in off Harverster Mill Rd, with a fair hike access to some of the better easement water off Otto Mills Road.  There is a public lot on County Rt 17, the north road out of Redfield, where 17 crosses the main N branch and the other spots are off easterly side roads below that crossing.  Headwaters of the North Branch and some tribs are in the Little John FWMA or nearby, and then it is just over the divide into the Sandy Creeks headwaters.  Everything up there has brookies if it has water all year, they tend to be small, you can fish all AM and catch 50 and not have enough 8 inchers for lunch.  Lots of NYS Forests (keep this in mind for snowshoes and grouse, deer disappear on the tug hill as soon as the spots are gone!)  and miles of easements, check the DEC Website.
Stocking #'s are also on the website, and they put browns and rainbows in. Also the reservoir in the areas where these branches meet it can be really good for large trout out of a canoe.
This should keep you busy for at least a couple of seasons!

Years ago I explored some of those waters L13,caught some nice Browns/Rainbows,I almost lost my Jeep Cherokee way back on a old logging trail.
Beautiful country and some day I'll get back there.

There is a public lot in Osceola, and another almost to the headweaters along the Osceola-West Leyden Road.  A little further up that road is Point Rock Creek and the Fish Creek system above the Rome Reservoir.  If you have 4WD, there is a lot of water up there on State lands, Maps on the DEC website.  One caution for anything dirt on the hill, these roads are snowmobile trails all winter, and when spring comes all those sharp little pieces of metal that help hold the tracks on the snow but sometimes fall out have gathered on the dirt surface, and they like to eat tires.  The snowmobile clubs run a truck with a big electromagnet on to pick up a lot of this debris once the snow is gone and the surfaces have hardened up, but in a late spring year like this, it can be early May before they get that done and until then, you need to carry 4 or 5 spares to have a chance of getting back out, and always make sure you have a GOOD SPARE if you leave the pavement  to explore, any time of year.   Mountain bikes are a great alternative for reaching some of these spots, rig up a PVC tube to hold your rod,  Also, the Official Bird of the Tug Hill is the black fly, the bites I've gotten on the hill take all summer to heal, and make ADK and Quebec bites look like nothing, so for the 2-3 weeks that they are bad, which unmercifully coincide with the best fishing, make sure you have a  lot of high DEET bugspray, head net and Jersey gloves, rubber bands over cuffs, and there was reason John Voelker smoked Parodi cigars other than to make himself smell like an old Italian!  Sometimes rubbing leeks all over your self helps too, but you will definitely not be welcome in a  local wateringhole for an afternoon cold one if you've been ramping all morning.  Added to all this if you camp (and you'll need to contact the local ranger for a permit to camp on State Forest Lands, unlike in the ADKS where you get the first 3 nights with no permit) is that the bears are back on the Hill, so you want to follow bear safe practices, and keep a really clean camp.
