Pachuckles
Went out this morning and picked (note: not pulled) up about 400 crawlers between 6:30 & 8:30. They were right on top of the ground.  Also on a little used blacktop driveway with grass on both sides.  I could just pick them up one right after the other.
Now I have to find some hungry Walleyes.
Oh yea,  at $2.50 a dozen I saved about  $80  for 2 hours work.  That will buy a tank of gas.

Yes,I agree bait prices are up like every thing. My local bait shop is a getting a little chincy,20 wax worms 1.60, 50 mags 1.60 all hand counted. I bought 12 dozen crappie minnow there last winter and the girl counted to 144 on the button, took her 20 minutes to count them. My garden is full of nice red worms and crawlers but I don't use them.

Puffs at Pymie!  Ask for a dozen of small minnows and your bucket looks like a black cloud!  Best best shop in that area if you ask me.  Alot of them are getting chincy....best price for cralwers is Walmart fellas if you buy em.  Just make sure you open them up and make sure there lively

Walmart is 18 or 20 for $2.96. That's not bad.  The ones in the 18 pack are a bit smaller and die more easily, in my opinion.

Sticker shock if you go to a certain store right off of Rte. 51 in Jefferson Hills on top of the hill.   Think that is the last time I ever buy bait there.  They refuse to give you the bait price over the phone and if it wasn't for the convenience right on the way home from work, I would never stop there.

$3.95 a dozen for small fatheads,
$2.85 for 50 maggots
And I think worms were $3.85 or something like that for a dozen.
