I walked out to the mouth of Maxwell Creek on Thursday evening and was greeted by a strong lateral rain / snow hitting me square in the face as I tried to casts spoons for browns.  Conditions were terrible and the mud line extended out about as far as I could cast a 3/4 ounce spoon.  I fished for about 2 hours and all I got was wet and cold, not to mention, with the high water in Maxwell the walk out there was not easy.  Anyway, there seems to be plenty of fish in Maxwell.  I fished Friday morning till about 1pm and caught a brown and 6 steelhead all on a float and worm (earthworm).   Earthworms were the ticket,  no luck on sacks or jigs.  With the heavy rain I am sure that the fish were seeing lots of them.  I stayed down in the slower water of the marsh.  There are plenty of fish up in the fast water but I'm not in to roping them like most of the anglers fishing up there were doing.  If your looking for a spot to fish with the high water on the Salmon, Maxwell is a good choice.  

Did you walk out the path on the east side of the creek to the shoreline and then down to the mouth?  The parking lot is east of the B+B, and the path stays up away from the creek down through the orchards to the stone beach. Should be able to keep your feet dry that way! 
 
I would say something about spot burning, but Maxwell has been in the DEC reports since last winter.  But the only thing it has going over most of the tribs is its shortness from the flatwater to the dam, only about 1/4 mile, so the fish concentrate.

I fished Maxwell a few years back when I stayed at the Rainbow Lodge and fished with Capt. Steve Leroy of Rainbow Charters in Sodus.  The lodge was within walking distance of the creek and it was chock full of juvenile fish.  Had more fun in the creek than on the lake.

I stayed on the trail but it seemed to end or almost vanish into some real thick briars and cover.  At that point I had to go down to the swamp and skirt around the edge of it.  still pretty thick.....

Fished the lake Tues.
The south wind had pushed the mud offshore and the water was clear.
Only had a half hour.
Missed one on an orange silver cleo.
I can never believe it when I miss fish on spoons.
Hunk of steel with hooks attached.
Not the sharpest hooks maybe but when it stop dead and puts a bend in the rod I set and it is just gone I am left scratching my head.
Didn't see either of the other guys touch anything.
